Chapter Ten - Everything's fine

2487 Words
Jack POV Julie had to borrow a phone from someone so she could call her contact to ask about what we are dealing with, and I stood outside Judy’s room watching the doctors apply wolfsbane to her arm to help her heal faster. I tried to listen in to Julie’s conversation, but she was speaking a different language that I don’t recognize. I scowled at her back when she would erupt in a fit of giggles. “Give it a rest Jack. Stop being the protective older brother. She has her mate now, she isn’t going to run away to the Lycans again,” Judy scoffed. I turn to face Judy, and she is smirking back at me. “Maybe you’re right. But if you think I’m bad, just wait until Brad finds out about Julie’s friend,” I expressed, putting quotation marks around friend. Judy just rolled her eyes in response. The doctor finishes up on Judy’s arm and says she’ll have to wait for the wound to close before she can leave. She didn’t like that at all, but she just leaned back against the bed with a sigh. She whipped out her phone and started texting someone. Probably texting Kyle to let him know what happened. Now that I know Judy is okay and Julie is still on the phone, I pull out my phone to call Ayla to see where she is. My wolf is still anxious from being away from her, so I need to hold her. I walk past Julie just as she hangs up the phone and I stop in my tracks when I see the look on her face. She knows something and it’s making her look like she’s just seen a ghost. “Everything okay?” I whispered. She nodded her head, but she grabbed my arm and yanked me outside. “It’s so much worse than we feared. This type of wolf that has red eyes is not supposed to exist, but according to Damien he says that if these wolves are turning up now as rogue werewolves, then we are in for a terrible war,” Julie hissed. She was starting to panic, and I know if she starts panicking then her mate will feel it and we don’t want everyone to panic all at once. Julie and Brad have already marked each other, so he will feel her emotions clear as day. I grip her shoulders and I ask her to mimic my breathing. “Just relax. Jenna is a seer, we can ask her about the prophecy so we can get a head start on what to do,” I promised, but also lying since Jenna doesn't know the extent of what is in the prophecy. She took a long deep breath in then slowly exhaled. I can feel her heart slowing down again which is good. “I had a talk with Jenna yesterday and she says that Ayla is a special wolf. She called it a red wolf, but I don’t know what that means,” Julie confessed, running her fingers through her hair. She shrugged my hands off her and turned to the side. I noticed her wolf had red fur, so I was quick to assume she was a red wolf, but having Jenna confirm it just floods my brain with worry. There is just so much information in my head right now that I feel overwhelmed. “Take some time to process this information, Jack. I’ll go tell Eric about it. You go find Ayla and enjoy the time you have with your mate,” Julie composed. She begins to walk away when Brad and Kyle pull up to the curb in a black mustang. Brad hops out of the passenger seat and hugs Julie tightly. Kyle hopped out and ran past me into the building. Well, now everyone is with their mate except me. My wolf goes into a frenzy when I catch Ayla’s scent, lavender infused with grapefruit. I turn to see her and Jenna running towards me from across the street. Guess they didn’t go back to the packhouse after all. Although the longer I look at Ayla, I see that she is dressed in some super tight clothes. Jeans that sit low on her waist and a tank top that looks a bit small for her because her stomach is showing, and her breasts are almost spilling out the top. She stands in front of me, and I can’t help but glare at her outfit. She covers her stomach, and her cheeks burn red with embarrassment. “Oh, knock it off. Your mate is Hot, get over it. Now what happened to Megan? How’s she doing?” Jenna dictated. I blink my eyes at her she just smirked at me. Why is this chick so terrifying? “Megan is being treated now, but she hasn’t woken up yet. Mark won’t leave her side,” I explained. Jenna hums then spins on her heel, her hair whipping my face as she strides inside, and her heels clicking loudly on the pavement. “She is terrifying,” I muttered under my breath, but Ayla must have heard me because she snickered. I chuckle along with her, and I just stare into her eyes. She looks as if she wants to ask me an important question because her face is full of concern, but she just lowered her head to avoid looking at me. “Would you like to go back to the packhouse to sit and talk,” I suggested for her. She’s probably really exhausted by all the events of today. She peeks up at me through her lashes and whispers, “Yes.” Seeing her like this reminds me of when I first met her at Huxley’s party. I knew she was my mate at first glance, but she hadn’t felt anything towards me yet so I couldn’t tell her. I was thrilled when she turned 18 at midnight that day. Her scent will forever be my favorite even though I've never smelled anything as close to lavender and grapefruit. I grab her hand in mine and we begin our walk back to the packhouse. . . . . . . Ayla POV I wanted to tell him off about the red eyed wolf, but every time I am close to him, I get tongue tied. I am glad that he was the one to suggest going back to the packhouse to talk because its more private than the street outside the hospital in the human town. It was kind of a long walk because apparently Jack ran all the way to the hospital when he found out I was awake instead of taking a car. I don’t mind the walk except my feet were starting to hurt from the shoes that Jenna gave me. I had to lean into Jack to keep myself from falling over and we weren’t even halfway there yet. “Are you okay?” Jack asked, his lip quirking up a bit when I started holding his arm with both hands. “Um… its these shoes. Jenna brought them…They are kind of hurting my feet,” I bite my lip and stare down at the ground in embarrassment. I feel like I am always embarrassed around him. Jack didn’t even like what I was wearing…or maybe he did but it was just too scantily clad for his mate to be wearing. Jack stoped walking and my feet slide in the dirt. I almost fall over, but he grabs my elbow to help steady me. My heart is racing and for the first time my eyes trail up his body to his face. Oh, my Goddess. This man is half n***d before me. He must have shifted in a hurry because he only has basketball shorts on. Very sexy shorts that sit low on his hips to where his v-line is poking out. My eyes keep going up past his eight pack abs, to his two gorgeous pecks that he could make dance if he wanted to. I finally stare into his eyes, and I lose my ability to breathe apparently. Jack smiles down at me. “Come on. Hop on my back, I’ll carry you,” he suggested, turning his back to me. I do as he says, and I nearly squeal with delight when I hop onto his back. He hooks his hands under my knees, and I wrap my arms around his shoulders. Now this is the best way to travel. Screw getting my driver’s license, I’ll just have my sexy mate carry me around everywhere. The walk takes about 30 minutes, but we finally make it to the packhouse. I was expecting Jack to set me on my feet right at the door, but no he strode right through the door and plops me down onto the couch in the living room. I can’t help the squeal that comes out of my mouth when he drops me. He sits down next to me and grabbed my ankles, carefully placing my feet in his lap. He takes off my shoes and drops them to the floor, then he started to massage my feet. “So, what would you like to talk about love,” he casually said, like we are two normal people sitting in my parents living room trying to avoid getting caught. Jack’s thumbs hit some pressure points in my feet and a small moan escapes my lips. “Shhh. Don’t want anyone walking in and hearing that babe,” he whispered. I bite my lip and I try to pull my legs into me, but he holds my feet hostage. What am I going to do with this man? “I have something important to discuss with you. How am I going to be serious when you are turning me on?” I asked him, wiggling my toes beneath his palms. “Okay. I’ll try not to turn you on,” Jack surrendered. He releases my feet and places his arm on the back of the couch, so his hand rests on the cushion right by my head. I tuck my legs underneath me, so I am sitting cross legged, and I lean forward. Jack watches as I lean in closer to his face. My eyes flick down to his lips then back up to his eyes. He smirked at me. I lean back and I place my feet back on Jack’s lap. “I wanted to ask you about the attack on Megan. Jenna told me it was the red eyed wolf,” I jumped right to the question, but it came out a bit fast, so hopefully Jack caught what I said. “Yes. It was a red eyed wolf, but it isn’t the same one,” Jack sighed. I sit up straight, and all playfulness went out the window. There is more than one red eyed wolf with a poisonous bite? “What do you mean, not the same one?” I asked, a little bit of panic filling my voice. “I don’t know the full extent of what these wolves are, but Julie says that these wolves should be extinct. Mostly they’ve been only rogues, but I think it’s only a matter of time before a pack member turns into one these rabid wolves,” Jack exclaimed. He drops his hand from the couch and gently squeezes my leg. A wolf that shouldn’t exist. Where have I heard that before? I rack my brain for something that sounds similar, and it hits me. I gasp out loud when I remember listening to my dad wander around the house repeating the prophecy that he swears is about me and my brothers. “The triplets three comes with war to a wolf that shouldn’t exist.” I mumbled. I close my eyes, drop my head in my hands, and I groan. My dad’s stupid ramblings turn out to be true, but why did it have to be the prophecy that makes absolutely no sense. The triplets three probably isn’t even me and my brothers, but Jack and his sisters. “Baby. Are you okay? What was that you just said?” Jack said. He sets his hand on the back of my head to try and comfort me. I raise my head, and I can’t stop my face from pouting. Jack smiled softly at my pouty face, but I can tell he is trying so hard not to laugh. “It’s the prophecy my dad always rambled on about,” I sigh with defeat. I scooch over on the couch, so my side is pressed up against Jack, and I rest my head on his arm. My feet are still on his lap, so my body is turned at an odd angle, but it felt nice to be this close to my mate. “That sounds like only half a prophecy. Why would he ramble about something that wasn’t even finished?” “What?” I gasped, sitting up and facing him. Jack just shrugged his shoulders. “That’s just what it sounds like. Maybe Jenna knows the full prophecy. She has been helping your dad out with some of his delusions I hear.” That’s right. She has been providing him visions from the Moon Goddess to help him know what is real and what is not. Jenna did want to talk with us about something like that, but then the red eyed wolf attack kind of put a damper on things. I take out my phone and I send a quick text to Jenna. Jen, I need to speak to u. Its about my dads ramblings and the recent attacks. Come to the packhouse “Jenna wanted to speak with us about the prophecy at my birthday party, but then the whole attack happened. I believe she knows more then she lets on,” I sighed. Jack nods his head without saying a word. Ping! Abt time you remember. B right there, b***h ;) I roll my eyes at the screen. “Jenna will be here any minute.” I slouch down again, resting my head on Jacks arm one more time. “This whole thing might keep me here longer than I was hoping, so we might not be leaving here any time soon,” Jack sighed. He wraps his arm around me and squeezes me closer to him. “That’s okay, Jack. As long as I get to be near you, that’s all that matters,” I mumbled. I breathe in Jack’s scent, and I close my eyes. I shouldn’t feel so tired, but cuddling up against my mate, being this close with the sparks from our bond tingling my skin is pure bliss. Zara starts purring like a cat again, and I smile as I fall asleep.
