Chapter 5

839 Words
Sophia swayed from one side of the road to another, the thoughts of everything heavily weighing her down. Her vision blurred with tears, feeling as if the world should just end right now. She just lost her baby as a result of a wicked act from the person whom she had considered to be her mother-in-law, not knowing she was a witch in the disguise of a human. And as for her husband, no, her foolish husband! He chose to trust what his mother told him over what his wife had to say. He was the most insensible person she had ever crossed paths with. Indeed, he didn't deserve to be her husband. “My baby! They killed it. I’m not going to forgive them for anything. They must pay.” Sophia gritted, her eyes red with revenge. To her now, the baby she lost was what really mattered to her, not this pathetic marriage she had just left. “He even laid his filthy hands on me for telling the truth. How dare he!” Sophia felt her face burning with pain and rage. As she muttered with anger to herself, her head spun with millions of thoughts. Memories came rushing back to her head—how she had been good to this family. Everything! But they have chosen to repay her this way. Remembering all this and how she lost her baby, she fell on the road and blacked out. Thud! Just then, a car pulled over,, and a man’s muscular arm pulled her up. ***** Isabella chuckled, resting her back on the sofa as she said, satisfied, “I'm a woman of my word, isn't I? I made a promise and I fulfilled it in no time. I need to be rewarded much more than what we discussed.” Anna sat comfortably across her, her legs crossed, feeling at home. Nodding, she responded, “You're such a dramatic woman. Never knew you would accomplish the mission in just a wink of an eye.” She gave her a thumbs-up, “Bravo, I'm impressed.” Isabella's face blushed shyly, “Anything for the money, we're ready to do it,” she said before leaning forward, keeping her voice more calm and lower than ever. Looking around and seeing no one coming, she continued, “Now, the mission is done, the payment is the only thing left to complete the agreement.” She whispered, half-smiling. “Yes, you're right,” Anna nodded, bringing out her, and ready to make payment. A moment later, Anna looked up from her phone, “Done, I just did a transfer of $50,000 to you.” Isabella raised her eyebrows at her, frowning, “$50,000? But that wasn't the agreement. We agreed on $100,000, isn't it?” Anna gave a curt nod, smirking, “It is, but the deal has changed. You have successfully carried out the plan, so I'm left to pay whatever I wish to.” Isabella hit her hand on the table, fueled with rage, “How dare you try to use me?!” Her voice began to rise, “Do I look like a kid or what?!” She stood up, glaring at Anna with fury. Anna's smirk started to widen as she mocked, “Mother-in-law, why are you shouting? Please, keep calm.” She let out a sarcastic chuckle. “Ethan can hear your voice and come downstairs, and what will you tell him if he does so…. nothing, right? But just….what if I tell you you killed his unborn child by pushing his beloved wife down? How does that sound…percent, not so?” Isabella's heart clenched and her fist tightened as she groaned, “Are you trying to blackmail me, Anna?” Her eyes flashed with disbelief as her voice cracked. “Haha….you can call it whatever you like,” Anna replied, “and if you still want to remain in this house, you'd better act as I instruct or else….you will have your son to lose, be thrown behind bars, but me, I got nothing to be afraid of because Sophia isn't going to forgive Ethan after everything. So get everything clear now.” Isabella's heart burned as she stared at Anna, her eyes broadening with bewilderment. Everything now seems clear to her—Anna’s intention and everything. She tried to say a word, but nothing was coming out. Anna pointed at her, “If you still want to enjoy the privileges of life, then keep that money to yourself and remain shut! Or else….” “Or else?” Ethan interjected with a puzzled expression as he saw the two women. Anna quickly pulled back her hand, feigning a smile. Isabella, as well, quickly put on a pretense face as if nothing had happened. Approaching further, Ethan asked, glancing at both women, “What's going on here? Anna, why were you pointing fingers at my mother? And Mom, why were you looking awkward as she was talking to you? Is there anything the problem?”
