The comeback

***ANNIKA'S POV*** I felt like I was caught in a whirlwind, like I was being swept away by the current. I couldn't seem to catch my breath, couldn't seem to get my bearings. Everything was happening so fast, and I felt like I was struggling to keep up. I had so many questions, but I didn't know where to start. I just stood there, trying to process everything that was happening. "What do I do now?" I asked, my voice full of uncertainty. "I don't know what to do." The man gave me a reassuring smile. "Don't worry," he said. He pulled out a photo, and handed it to me. I took it, my heart pounding in my chest. As I looked at the picture, I felt my eyes well up with tears. It was a photo of me as a baby, being held by my father. I saw the love in his eyes, the happiness on his face. I could feel the emotion radiating from the photo, and I knew that it was real. "Is this really me?" I asked, my voice breaking. "Is that really my father?" The man nodded, his eyes soft and kind. "Yes, Annika." He showed me another picture of me, a bigger brother and my mother and father together. "Did I also have an elder brother?" I asked, my voice full of wonder. "I never knew about him, I never even suspected." "Yes, you have a brother," the man replied. "He's a few years older than you, and he lives at home with your parents." "I can't believe it," I said, shaking my head. "I never knew I had a brother, I never even suspected. How come no one ever told me?" The man's expression turned solemn. Everything that the man had told me, everything I had seen, it all seemed to click into place. The pieces of the puzzle were falling into place, and the picture that was emerging was clear. I had a family, I had people who loved me. And I couldn't believe that I had been so blind to it all. "Do you think I can meet them?" I asked, my heart in my throat. "Do you think they would want to meet me?" The man nodded, his eyes bright with hope. "I think they would be thrilled to meet you. You're their daughter." I went in to change to the clothes that the man brought for me, I did my make up and hair and was ready to leave. I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. I felt like a new person, like I had been reborn. I had a family, a past, a future. And I was ready to face it, to embrace it. I put on the clothes that the man had brought for me, and I felt a sense of transformation. I looked like a different person, like a better version of myself. I was ready to meet my family, to meet the people who had created me. As I walked out of the bathroom, I saw the man standing there, a smile on his face. "You look beautiful." I saw my Uncle and his mistress, I watched as they cried, their tears flowing freely. But I didn't believe them, I couldn't believe that they were genuinely upset. I had seen their true colors, had seen the way they had treated me. And I knew that they were just putting on a show, that they didn't really care. But I also knew that I had to be the bigger person, that I had to take the high road. I had to be the one to show grace and compassion, even when they didn't deserve it. So I walked over to them, and I placed a hand on each of their shoulders. We took off and I looked out the window as we drove, taking in the beauty of the landscape. The trees were lush and green, the sky a perfect shade of blue. I felt a sense of peace, of calm, wash over me. The air was fresh and clean, and I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with the sweet scent of nature. And then we arrived at the house, and I felt my breath catch in my throat. The house was magnificent, a work of art. The architecture was stunning, the grounds impeccable. It was everything I could have imagined, and more. I felt like I was in a dream. As we walked up to the front door, the servants lined up in two neat rows. I felt a little intimidated, a little overwhelmed, it all seemed weird. But I tried to keep my composure, tried to appear confident and assured. The head butler stepped forward, his face full of respect. He took our bags from us, and then opened the door, ushering us inside. And as we stepped into the house, I felt like I was entering another world, a world of opulence and grandeur. The house was filled with art and antiques, with fine furniture and exquisite details. The rooms were spacious and luxurious, my in-laws house was nothing compared to this. I saw the man and woman first, and I knew immediately that they were my parents. They were older, of course, but they looked just like they did in the photos. And then I saw the young man, and I knew that he was my brother. He looked just like me, like we were twins. And in that moment, I felt a rush of emotions, a mix of joy and sorrow, of longing and relief. I was home, I was finally home. I went over to where my parents were and I greeted them. They looked happy to see me and my mother took me into a warm embrace and so did my father. I turned to embrace the young guy who I pressured was brother and as I gave him a hug, he whispered something into my ear. "You shouldn't have come back, you should have died then."
