Chapter 8

I start to hear a muffled voice from somewhere close and slowly I can make out what they are saying “ I didn’t intend to tell her this way I planned to tell her eventually just this is too soon” there’s a pause “ I know now my hand has been forced” I can feel myself getting back to I know I can open my eyes if I wanted to “ yes she’s awake now, I can here her heart I have to go” did he just say he can hear my heart beating? I don’t hear a heart monitor so how is he hearing it?

There is a slight pressure on my arm and Carlo whispers in my ear “ I know you’re awake please be calm your heart is racing and I don’t want you to faint again” I open my eyes and I am immediately met with his beautiful blue eyes but they are creased with worry.

“Why? What? Where? When? How?” I studder out. I don’t really know what to ask for sure but this seems like the best ones.

He takes a deep breath “ I’m going to tell you a story but I need you to not interrupt me okay?” I shake my head and try to back away from him.

“ okay so all the myths and stories you heard all your life are for the most part true. There are vampires, werewolves, and witches and we all live with you humans inconspicuously. I was born a vampire in 1567 in Spain under king Philip the second.”

“ whatttt? 1567”

“ mija please” he looks at me with amused eyes. I make the motion of me zipping my mouth and throwing away the key. “ This was when people were aware of monster that walked among them and my father and mother were the rulers of the vampires in Europe at the time and they were organizing their subjects to not make themselves known to the humans and it started working less and less suspected vampires were being killed of course most of the people they suspected were vampires were just innocents.” He shakes his head “ all those innocent people I mean they got it right seldomly but anyway I’m getting off the subject”

“ anyway I grew up as a prince in Spain I lived my first 100 years then it was my turn to take a bride so my parents set up meetings with the most prominent vampires in our community and there I met my wife ysabel but she wasn’t born a vampire she was created so her blood wasn’t pure so I had to fight with my parents to marry her it took 7 years for them to finally agree that might seem like a long time to you but to us it’s nothing anyway we married and we took over for my parents and became king and queen. We tried for years to have a baby eventually we had to go to the vamp doc. That’s when we learned that when my wife had a baby before she became a vampire and during the birth she lost her uterus and that’s when they turned her because she was dying to save her her son was sent to the orphanage and she was told that her baby died so she spent her time learning about her new life and she only found out that her baby lived a few years before we met he was 60 by then and had his own family and grandkids.”

“ so she would keep track of them and help them when she could. We decided that we would just be together and love life so we spent 100 years together happily ruling Europe and most of Asia and when the Americas were discovered we ruled there too anyway some of the southern countries decided to rebel and we went to war and well my parents and my wife were lost but I won and became king of all the vampires. I divided each country and set my trusted friends and family to oversee each content” he paused

“ now what questions do you have?” He asked

“ okay why aren’t you cold? How do you come out in the day? You said blood line so you have blood in your veins also how do you have children? What happened to your wife’s family do you still look after them? And probably a million more”

“ okay I am warmer than most vampires because I am royal but I am still not as warm as a human but it’s not notable enough for most humans to question, and I come out in the day but not the sun and I won’t burn in the sun my skin is just different in the sun and humans would notice it that was a rumor set up so we could live together without humans taking too much interest. And yes I have blood in my veins but it’s different it never runs dry and it is purplish in color not red as yours, as for my wife’s family that is a story for another time. Anything else”

“ well how do you, you know, die you said your family was killed, do you ever get old looking? Do you have any special powers? Also what did you mean by your skin is different?”

“ okay mija so we can only die by our hearts being ripped from our body and no human is strong enough to even scratch our skin, also we never age our body stop growing at about the same way someone who is 25 years old but we grow fast from birth to full grown in about 8 years it’s a way to not be vulnerable for long. As for special powers some vampires have them but not all, I can feel what you are feeling so I know you’re scared but intrigued by me. As for my skin I will show you one day when the weather is nice. Anything else?”

I’m not really sure how to Process this but I’m not scared of him just the fact the freaking vampires actually exist wait “ what do you mean a human can’t scratch you? What else can you do? And do you um… you know like the movies?”

“ we have impenetrable skin only our kind has strong enough nails to scratch our skin, we also have excellent hearing, speed, strength, reflexes, sight, and smell basically our senses are 20 times that of a human and never dull over time. Well I think you seen how I sustain myself, most of my kind dose blood bags but we do indulge in neck play every now and then, but we don’t kill our human donors.”

“ so you said your wife was turned into one of you how do you do that and is it painful and how long does it take?”

“ well I didn’t want to go into this but I can feel your fascination so you have to die with vampire blood in your system but it must be from a pure vampire not someone who was also turned. You see our blood is sweet and it can heal you humans it is extremely intimate for a vampire to share their blood because they will share your thoughts while you’re drinking from them and you will have a connection for as long as it’s in your system. As for when someone is turning it is extremely painful like every bone in your body getting broken at the same time all while you feel like you are being burned alive and it generally takes 36 to 72 hours it really depends on how much vampire blood you have in your body and how you died.”

“ So where do we go from here?” He takes his hand a pushes a lose strand of hair behind my ear and I unconsciously lean into his hand.

“ where indeed” he lays on the bed next to me and we are not touching just looking in each other’s eyes trying to see all the answers when I feel myself falling asleep again I am exhausted and have definitely had too much information and my world change is such a short time that I need to give my brain a break hopefully tomorrow will be better.
