Jax's POV
The SUV moved forward effortlessly. Nova continued to resist, contorting and pushing me with every inch of her body, but her energy was waning with each block we passed. When we finally passed the gates of the property, she stopped resisting, panting heavily.
I got out of the SUV and pulled her along with me. She stared wide-eyed at the massive stone walls surrounding the mansion, illuminated by powerful security lights, all of which screamed wealth and power. Some maids and servants who were standing nearby instantly bowed down.
“Welcome back, Master Jax.”
I ignored them. Nova resumed resisting the moment we stepped into the property. I could take no more.
“Quit it,” My breath hissed.
Her nose flared and…my heart danced. That was odd. She had no idea how cute she was.
“This isn't my house.”
“It is now,” I said, and she pulled. My head tilted as I kept my eyes locked on her movements. She twirled, turned, tossed, locked and missed.
And gasped out tired. With one strong pull, I heaved her over my shoulder again, not giving a s**t about the fresh wave of curses she was throwing at me, or about the punches she was dealing to my back on our way up the long staircase.
“Put me down you bastard!”
The maids lowered their heads, giggling as I walked past and I held in my breath. This was embarrassing.
Luckily, Ivan, my best friend, hadn't visited today or I would be the butt joke.
She was still cursing when I threw her into the large bed inside my room. She bounced a bit, moaned, and jumped upright, her eyes burning.
“You’re insane—”
I grabbed her by her flailing hand before she could do anything else, gripping her wrist tightly. My smirk was slowly creeping up my face for reasons unknown. “Aren’t you going to let me give you the tour?”
She spit right into my face.
I cleaned myself up with the back of my hand calmly. “That is very rude.”
“I have a lot more of those if you don’t release me.”
“And you do?” My smirk widened devilishly, the flames from before getting me even more interested than I would like.
"Why are you smiling?" Her voice cracked slightly.
My wolf rumbled deeply at the sound. The gaze she gave me dropped, then met mine. "Pervert."
I glanced down and realized she’d played me. Her knee jabbed right up between my legs. I released her immediately, crumpled in a ball, hands covering my groin.
She made a dash for the door and tugged at the handle. But the door wouldn’t move. She wheeled around, picked up the hefty lamp from the nightstand, and held it out at arm’s length, like a club. “Open the door.”
I rose slowly, the searing pain subsiding to a dull throbbing sensation. I perched gingerly on the end of the bed and regarded her. “And why should I?”
“I want to get out of here, now. Just open the damned door.”
“No.”
“You’ll regret this. I swear to God, I’ll—”
“What? Smash the vase into my skull? Behave like the crazy person who almost killed us both on the road?”
“At least that is preferable to selling me.”
“I didn’t.”
“Then why did you swerve into another lane? You went ahead all by yourself without your buddies, and took me right back to where my father—”
I interrupted her. “Here’s what I’ll tell you. I don’t work with Elias.”
My gaze fell upon the lamp still hovering in her grasp. “That is pricey.”
She hesitated, then lowered it, but kept pointing at the door. “About that. I can’t let you leave.”
"I want my freedom."
"You'll get it," I replied, getting to my feet. She stumbled back, just a single step. "When you earn it."
I took a step towards her. The urge to caress her face was powerful. I raised my hand. She flinched away, jerking her head to the side. I stopped.
"Earn it? The only thing you'll earn is my hate," she spat.
"Indeed."
I passed her, touched the doorknob and lock the door behind me. This time using the key I had snuck in my sleeves.
She pounded on the door almost instantly. "Jax! Let me out!"
I left without glancing at her once more, taking the steps downstairs with heavy boots.
In the main floor hall, Jordan and some of the enforcers stood with grim expressions.
"Alpha, I didn't realize—"
I silenced Jasper. "He had inside help. Someone was feeding him information. He knew precisely where to find me."
Jasper narrowed his eyes. "Are you saying that we have a mole?"
“Yes. And I want you to find who it is. Bring them to me alive.”
A loud crash sounded from upstairs—something heavy smashing against the floor. All heads tilted up at once.
My eyes shot to the back of my head and returned to their normal position, my teeth biting down on my lower lips.
“What's that?” Jordan exclaimed.
I exhaled slowly, rubbing the back of my neck. “Never mind that. She’s getting acquainted.”
Jordan didn't stop. “But, she could hurt herself.”
My voice dropped. “She's fine. Let her lose some steam.”
Then…another crash and the guards out door at her window shouting in disarray as I rubbed my forehead, closing them for a moment.
She was going to be a handful.
