Jax's POV
Elias' face was taunting, his smirk growing as Nova yelled at me. How did he know I would be here?
Sell her to him? Why? Why lose my chance at healing with a mate? What did he…?
My mind paused. He followed me. No, he had been waiting.
I had changed lanes because Jordan, my second in command, had shared through the mind link that we were being tailed. I needed more time with her.
Son of a b***h!
Lying was one thing but turning me against my mate was another. I wasn't having that.
The two-timing asshole was getting to Nova. She believed him. I did know him but I never made the call to have him here. I had wanted to tell her about my feral madness and strike a deal with her.
My nose caught the scent of different people and I realized he wasn't planning on letting me alive. They flooded the room. His eyes were fixed on her. His intent clear, he wanted her alive. I was just collateral.
But…I had a surprise of my own.
My wolf enraged, ready to tear flash released, crawling out of my skin. Grunts giving way to thunderous roars and…Elias. His eyes widened in horror, taking a step back.
My wolf was in control. Gunshot rang out, one hitting my chest but it was a waste. I found the shooter, jumping to him as he screamed aloud with his body lifted in the air. My hand around his neck and I snapped.
Turning to the others, another band of gunshots roared and I couldn't handle every hit. One more hit my chest, drawing blood.
Fenrir, my wolf raged. “Kill them all.”
My wolf lunged at Elias, and his men stepped forward. Big mistake, their tearing flesh and high screams gave Fenrir the pleasure he needed.
When I turned he wasn't there anymore. My nose worked with my eyes, tracking. I found him on the stairs. He stopped, turning to face me. “I want Nova. Dead or alive. Kill him if you must.”
Not if they died first. The sharpening sound of my claws against the metal had him shaking while I locked dead eyes with him.
Someone shot, and I slashed, his throat gushing with blood and he went limp. The remaining two turned to run.
I was faster, digging into their back, their weak groans and bodies went limp before they reached the ground.
Standing tall, my wolf pointed a bloodied clawed finger. “It's you and me.”
Elias stumbled back, holding the railing as I walked forward. I would make him wish he was dead.
The first stroke followed. I missed. My hand fell to my side, bleeding…then I looked up. I had heard them in my anger.
Elias had more reinforcement. It was time to leave. I shifted back, picked the gun of one dead man displaced on the floor and shot. It hit the first one behind him while Elias cowered. the second man fell right after when I pulled the trigger again.
We couldn't stay here. I grabbed the jacket on the floor, and wore it. Pulled the jeans off one of them and ran towards where Nova hid.
She gasped when I grabbed her hand, pulling her up. “What the…”
“We need to leave.”
I pushed my legs into the bloodied jeans and zipped.
“Really? Right now? Do you have an idea where we are for you to care about covering your naked butt for no damn…”
The gunshot had her screaming and she cowered. I reached for her, pulling as we made it to the entrance.
The migraine grew as my wolf kept hitting the back of my head. “Let me out. We can finish them off. I need to…”
“No. You're staying back there. That's not enough killing for today.” I shot back but Fenrir was stubborn.
“Let me out!”
“I said no!”
“Foolish human.” He lashed and I fell to my knees groaning. The footsteps of Elias men haunting us drew closer and Nova crept to me.
“What are you doing? They're closing in..”
“I need blood. Give it to me,” Fenrir snapped, causing the headache to triple. “Give me what I want.”
“No!” I hissed.
“Nice. I have an Mafia alpha with a madness and he's going to get us killed,” Nova hissed.
Fenrir wouldn't stop. “Run,” I breathed.
“What?”
“I said Run! They're going to catch up. You can still make it.”
“Don't f*****g tell me what to do. This is all your fault. If you hadn't been so stupid to take the deal from my father…”
I blocked my ears pushing my body up with all my strength, while fighting Fenrir and made it to her.
My anger rose but I couldn't do anything except let a pathetic low groan escape my lips. “Be quiet.”
Her eyes widened and she moved when I grabbed her. I didn't have time for this. My hand wrapped around her wrist while she fought.
I lost it, throwing her over my shoulder and running as I searched for the entrance.
I got to the entrance, my bike parked far off and I began running towards it.
Nova was quiet, her hair hitting my back until I got to it.
The second I held the handle, Fenrir roared again. “No! We go back and finish what we started.”
“Shut it!” I warned silently. Then dropped Nova.
She halted and I started the engine. “You get in or I'll leave you here. Choose one.”
She looked back, at the warehouse then at me and….
I heard it. My ears had caught it before when we passed the dark path in the warehouse.
“I can't trust you.”
“Now's not the time.”
“You could be taking me to…” I didn't let her finish, grabbing her arm and carried her into the front, her face meeting mine, her hair against the wind as I stepped on the brakes.
Then….
Boom!
The warehouse exploded. The impact nearly hit us.
Her eyes popped out in their socket as the wind and heavy scent of burning reached us.
