Jax's POV I shut the garden door behind me, and I took off running, my boots splattering the dirt path all the way into the forest. Cold air stabbed at my skin, but anger made sure that my blood burned. The forest was already closing in around me, its scents mingling together into an olfactory assault on my senses. Nova’s scent came first—the vanilla smell that always clung to her, infused with the fear and sweat and hints of blood. Following the scent trail, I raced down the sloping hill to find the footprints, big boots and small feet in sand, and bits of Nova's dress hanging from a broken branch. With one hand, I grabbed the torn piece of clothing and held it close, my nose breathing in the scent and identifying the hint of fear. “Nova!” I called out into the night. I got no answe
