The bad boy's attention

SECOND YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL WINONA'S POV Age 17. I sat in the empty classroom staring at my result, seated beside me was my best friend; Blair. I hadn't opened it yet because I was so nervous. "Open it already". Blair urged me "I mean what could possibly go wrong? You're one of the smartest people in the class". She didn't get it, this wasn't just about opening the results. It was the scores that mattered, the grades. She probably didn't know this but scoring higher than him in class was what made him look at me, was what made him notice me. By him, I meant no other person than Drake; The school's sweetheart. Every single girl in high School had a crush on him, even the tiny girls in Junior high all wanted him to just look at them. I've liked him since first year of high School but he wasn't the type to pay attention to girls. He was called antisocial because he rarely spoke to anyone, even the teachers had a hard time communicating with him. "Wait"!! Blair jolted from her seat and suddenly her eyes began to increase in size as she put the puzzle pieces together. Ahh, thank God that she had a working brain so i didn't have to explain anything to her. "Now I seeee". She slapped my head lightly "You are trying to get the young man's attention". Since she caught me, it was time to explain to her how my little plan started. She was the only one who knew that i had genuine feelings for Drake, If my stepsister got wind of it, i would be dead. "Well..." I whispered "Thing is, I figured out that the only way for him to notice me was to beat his total mark at the end of the term". "So, that was why you studied extra hard last term". It was fun for me to see my best girl figure this out one at a time, she was like the human version of dora the explorer. She sat down in her seat. "If you have made all the effort, i think you should be confident in your result. You've always made the ninety percent total mark, so i have faith that you did better this time". Okay, deep breaths. "Here goes". I tore the envelope gently, and pulled out the thick paper which contained writings of my result. In a quick motion, i placed it on Blair's lap urging her to check the result first. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't exactly worked up because of a boy, but considering the amount of hard work i put into this..Hell yeah, i was worked up. She picked up the thick paper and started to go through it slowly, and at every roll her eyes did, my heart dropped to my stomach. In exactly 15 seconds, she slammed the paper to the table and stared at me with pity written all over her face "Geography f****d the result up, I'm sorry". There it was, all my hard work thrown out the window. Tears gathered in my eyes, and she quickly pulled me into her warm embrace. "I tried my best, I really tried my best". I sniffed She tapped my back repeatedly. "Of course I know you tried your best, if not, how else did you get the hundred percent mark". I pushed her off me without even thinking twice. "You're not joking are you? Please tell me you're not joking". She smiled, and there was my confirmation. I grabbed the paper from off the table, and skipped to the total mark, nothing else mattered, not even f*****g geography. A tear dropped from my eyes. I got a hundred, not ninety nine point nine, it was a freaking hundred boldly written at the bottom right corner of my report card. I didn't get enough time to celebrate my victory because the other students began to waltz into the class, making my moment short-lived. Ahhhh, clumsy idiots. The last person to walk in the class was Mr. perfect, and he wasn't even bothered about the fact that the teacher was already standing, ready to announce results. What if Drake also got a hundred percent, that would mean competition right? Would he still notice me or would he just remain unbothered like always. I would have to wait and see if God really granted my wish, only then would I be able to play my game right. "Drake" The teacher called out loud So quick? I was probably too lost in thoughts to notice when he called the other names. As the name 'Drake' sounded in the class, the whole place became so silent that if a pin dropped, the whole school would hear it. My heart began thumping in my chest. Please God, please. I stared directly into the teacher's eyes so deeply as if i would be able to see what was written on the paper in his eyeballs. Silly me. But there was something else there, right there in his eyeballs, it wasn't the look of admiration he usually had in his eyes whenever he call Drake's result out loud. It was shock, disbelief, you name it. "Ninety nine percent" He finally announced. I almost screamed out loud like i had really gone mad. I passed that bag of hot potatoes right there. I did it!!!! Meanwhile, the whole class was in shock, the almighty Drake had never gotten anything below a hundred percent. But I couldn't care more. I accomplished my mission and it was a stepping stone to getting what i really desired. I slightly turned my head in his direction but his face remained void of any emotion. Usually, most people would be sad but he wasn't, he just remained calm and cold as always. Not like i was expecting anything different. The rest of the names went by in a blur, and then it got my turn. "Winona" He called, but the class didn't go silent this time, they just continued to their chit-chat. They don't know what's about to hit them. "A hundred percent" The teacher announced, and this time the class went silent, very silent like a ghost was passing by. I wasn't bothered about what went through their minds at the time or even what their expression was. I was only worried about one thing; What he thought of me, and if this time he carried any emotions in his face. And, for the second time I stylishly turned my head in his direction and there he was, seated in all his glory staring intensely at me like he was trying to figure me out. Like I was a scattered puzzle, and he was trying to put me together. His gaze intimidated me. It sparked a certain type of feeling inside of me, so I just had to look away from him. But I caught something, something he didn't make so obvious. He winked at me DRAKE WINKED AT ME!!! Mission accomplished....
