Elena POV
The words hung in the air and I couldn't process them at first, couldn't make sense of what Dr. Patterson was saying through the phone speaker.
"He's waking up?" I asked taking the phone from Lily and my voice came out strange. "Adrian is waking up?"
"His brain activity has increased significantly in the last hour and he's showing clear signs of emerging from the coma." Dr. Patterson sounded genuinely excited. "We're seeing REM activity which we haven't seen before and he's responding to stimuli."
"What does that mean? When will he wake up?" I gripped the side of the gurney.
"We don't know exactly when, it could be hours or it could be days, but everything points to him coming out of the coma soon." Dr. Patterson paused. "I wanted to let you know before your surgery."
