Bound by Circumstances

Chapter Two Jenny's POV It seems you're short of words, or let's say you're confused, or probably didn't hear what I said. So, for better understanding, I'm going to rephrase my words. I think you should leave your ears open, as well as your head, to avoid stuttering and to wake up to reality. "Your aunty sold you to me," or let's just go with the so-called contract marriage, since it seems more respectable. He said without a single hint of guilt or emotion. Standing still in shock, my head was not analyzing anything at that moment. I finally found my voice after some minutes of being mute. "I don't know you. I don't understand what the hell is going on here," I said, taking a deep breath and sighing. Honestly, I'm literally scared about the turn my life is taking—these thoughts walking through my mind. "Okay, since there's a little misunderstanding here, I think you should call your aunt for a better explanation," he said in a calmer tone. Did he just call this a little misunderstanding? No, hell, this is a big misunderstanding, I said loudly inside my head. Then I remembered Aunt told me about going somewhere this evening, with no detailed explanation. I brought out my phone with shaking hands and slowly dialed my aunt's number. On the third ring, she picked up. "Hello!" I could hear her voice from the other end. "Hello, it's me, Jenny..." She cut me short and said, "I know it's you. Just go straight to the point." "I'm at an unknown place and..." She cut me short again. "Stop beating around the bush, Jenny. I'm busy, and you know I don't have patience for long talks." The statement I was scared to ask, knowing fully well that this stranger might be so right about my aunty, but then again, I have no choice but to face reality. "Did... you se...sell... me?" I spluttered as those words left my lips. "What did you say?" she asked. I gathered enough courage and said again, "Did you sell me?" "I married you off," I'm sure I heard her sniff her nose, like someone who is crying. No, I don't think so. Probably my mind is playing games with me. "Okay," was the only word that came out of my lips. "And please don't call me again. We don't have any business together anymore. Goodbye." Before I could reply, my phone beeped, indicating she had hung up. My face went pale. So just like that, another chapter of my life has started. Maybe this is the only way I can pay Aunt Rachel for everything she has done for me all through the years. "So, do you believe me now?" he asked. I raised my head to look at him, and a ray of candlelight made me see a side of his face. I could tell he was deadly handsome, like those handsome guys described in romance books. He was giving off this bad boy vibe. "Enough with your silly thoughts, Jenny. This isn't the time to admire anyone," I said to myself. "I believe you. I never doubted. Just wanted to hear her say it," I said slowly and sadly. My eyes started feeling wet all of a sudden—oh, tears want to fall. No, I can't cry in front of a stranger. "Okay, since we are good, let's have some wine and then go to the courthouse tomorrow to finalize everything." He walked towards me, and that was when I noticed his cologne. It was such a nice aroma, giving off a cool scent. He took me by my hand and led me to the table where there were two glass cups with red wine in the middle. He poured a glass of wine in both cups and told me we should make a toast to a happy married life. We clinked our glasses together, and then I gulped down everything at once. I was sad that I left my aunty's house, but I'm grateful in another way. At least I get to pay her back for everything she has done for me throughout the years. Since this is her final decision for me, then I think I'm waking up to reality, for real. And then I dropped my glass and passed out. Drey's POV Dr. Rachel decided to give me her niece as compensation for all the debt her late parents refused to pay. And since Dad has been pressuring me for a wife, then I think it was a good bargain from Dr. Rachel's side. Besides, I like how naive this girl seems. She's the best for the job. So I signed the deal with Dr. Rachel. I tried acting all tough, but this isn't me. I was just trying to practice my bad boy skills. LOL. I looked at the young girl who just took one glass of wine and passed out already. I looked at the wine bottle and saw the label: fortified with extra alcohol, 20%. Oh s**t! This drink was meant for me, not her." I can hold high-alcohol drinks. I don't know how that's possible, or let's just say it's my talent. I was looking at the young lady before me. I took out the remote from my pocket and pressed the button. Light came through the room, and I saw the face of the young lady. I moved closer to her and began inspecting her face. Long beautiful lashes, clear skin, pink lips... damn! She's so pretty. I hope she gets comfortable with me as time goes on. Wait, she will. Everyone gets comfortable with me because I'm the best. I carried her in bridal style and walked out of the room. Through the passageway, I couldn't take my eyes off her. Her beauty was so enticing. I got to the master bedroom and lay her down slowly. As I turned to go shower, I heard her say something. I walked back to where she lay and put my ear close to her. "Please don't leave me. Please don't go. Please..." she kept saying. What happened to her? Was she really in love with her ex? No, no. Her aunty said she didn't give her a chance of her own to have fun like others. Then who did she not want to leave her? A lot of secrets for me to unfold, I guess. But for now, I promise I will make sure she doesn't experience anything that will hurt her again in the future. After my bath, I walked to the bed and lay on the other side, facing away from her. Closing my eyes to drift off to sleep, I suddenly felt her hand around me.
