Klaus
It's been four long days since Evie apparently vanished into thin air. Donnie had a full on pageant queen meltdown. We had to lock down the pack indefinitely. Eli acted as Alpha while Donnie was indisposed. We told a little white lie that the rogues are presenting a bigger problem than we thought. It was terrible lying to the pack, but I'd much rather them being cautious because of rouges - than the truth that their alpha is now feral. We upped security and told the warriors if they spot the alpha, to contact Eli and I immediately. Don't talk to him, don't stop him, just alert us. After a day and a half of searching for him, we caught him on the west side of the territory, napping in a cave. We had to tranquilize him like a damn wild boar. I was so overcome with emotion I needed a strong chest to cry on. And Eli was just what the doctor ordered. Too bad he's shamelessly straight. It was comical how bad he was at hiding his uncomfortableness, and I knew in his little heterosexual heart he was trying his damned ness.
Anyways, back to more important matters, we had to chain my poor brother in a maximum security dungeon underneath the packhouse that only a handful of people know about. On the third day, Donnie finally woke up. We might have gone overboard with the tranquilizer but I was not taking the chance that the big bad alpha wolf could suddenly wake up before we had him secure. Once he was coherent enough, he told me and Eli about what went down. It was hard to get the whole story because everytime he mentioned Evie, he lost control and shifted into his lycan. His wrists and ankles were raw and bloodied from him trying to break loose. We had to leave and come back once he calmed down like a hundred times. After hearing what we felt was the whole story, I'm certain he was being modest with some details. I get the feeling some hanky panky was going on, but I digress.
"Don? We have to keep you locked up in here until you're not feral anymore okay? We're gonna do everything we can pal." Eli said softly, looking sadly at my brother.
His hair was wild and matted, his head hung down, and he looked like a shell of the man he once was. My heart broke into a million pieces. I started to walk up to to him when Eli warned "Kay, don't"
But I didn't listen. I walked up to my brother and placed his face in my hands. Pulling his head up to look at me. I gave him a weak smile. "We got this Donnie Thorneberry"
"Find her" he said sadly and hung his head back down.
Feeling defeated, I briskly walked pass Eli and down the dark hall to the staircase. I could feel Eli jogging behind me after I heard the clink of the bars closing and locking. We walked up the staircase in silence and as we got ready to shut and lock the thick steel door, we heard a earth shattering roar erupt from the dungeon. I ran up the stairs and into my room, slamming my door and throwing myself on my bed. A few minutes later there was a soft knock at my door. I didn't say anything and I heard the door open. I could smell baby powder - which was Ellie - and mint - who was Kitty. Us three had become thick as thieves over the years. Eli, Ellie and Adonis were born practically at the same time, only about a week apart. I came about five years later. Eli and Adonis' bromance started young and Ellie and I gravitated towards each other. We were the dynamic duo before a sweet green eyed witch wondered onto our territory looking for a family about ten years ago. And we've been the three musketeers ever since.
"Heyyy girl" Ellie said softly walking up to my bed. I looked up and she had two bottles of expensive wine in her hands.
"I brought cups!" Kitty said closing the door and walking behind Ellie.
I sat up crossed leg on my bed, wiping my tears. "You know just they way into a girls heart" I weakly say forcing a smile. "Sit sit sit. When did we become so formal?" I asked rolling my eyes.
The girls giggled and handed out the cups filled with wine. I explained everything to them as I still sat crossed leg on my bed, swirling my wine. Only the four of us knew this information. Besides Donnie, of course, I only trust Eli, Ellie and Kitty with my life. We're a family and they have a right to know. Kitty was sprawled across my plush, green rug on the ground, her head resting on her folded arms. Ellie sat on my blue floral print chaise, sipping her wine with her legs crossed.
"He said find her. How the hell? She freaking vanished! Like my dignity at closing hour at a club" I groan pouring myself another glass of wine, someone knocked on my door.
"Room for a fourth wheel?" Eli asked, peeking his head in the door.
"And poor Eli! He's all alone in the big cold world! His work and life husband is feral!" I joke.
Everyone laughs as Eli walks over to my bed and sits next to me. Oh how many times I imagined this moment. A tall, sexy angel sitting on my silk purple and red and white sheets. But these are serious times and I'm beginning to find out that the universe is one cruel b***h.
"Not saying he has a ego or anything but I think he really was more flabbergasted that he lost her scent in a big ass field. He even rambled on about witches at some point. He finally freaking lost it" I said shaking my head in disbelief.
A loud hiccup erupted from the floor. All our attention turned to the green eyed witch lying down, who was now suddenly sitting up looking nervous. I squinted my eyes, something is off.
"Care to share Wanda Maximoff?" I ask suspiciously.
"Too much to drink" she said avoiding eye contact. She pushed up her coke bottle glasses and began to stand up. I jumped off the bed and in front of her in a flash. Ellie gasped and Eli also jumped up, confused about what was going on.
"Spill it Kitty" I warned.
"I can't. Not really. It's not my story to tell and it's not allowed. I don't think. It's only a theory. It might not be true!" Kitty said pacing back and forth.
"What are you talking about girl?" I asked as I raised an eyebrow. It just might be the wine. Kitty let out a deep breath.
"Her necklace. It's a trans- it's a gift from the gods. Oh goddess. I don't know how to say things without saying things. It's not allowed and she could get in trouble for it. Even danger!" Kitty rambles.
"Is she a witch?" I ask bluntly.
"She smells of a human though" Ellie chirps in, Eli nodding his head in agreement.
"No. Well, I don't think so. Not technically anyways." She says still pacing back and forth.
"Oh Kitty please stop talking in riddles" Eli groans holding his face in his hands.
"You're gonna walk a line into my cashmere carpet b***h!" I yell. Her pacing was making me dizzy and her rambling was blowing my drunkness.
"Okay. Backstory. Martyrs. They're chosen by gods to kill other beings. Witches, wolves, vampires, et cetera. They're usually only specific to their species, vampires hunt vampires, centaurs hunt centaurs and all that jazz. There's only been one human martyr, like 100 centuries ago. She could hunt anything, she was skilled in all forms of combat and even had magical powers like a witch but 500 times stronger. Martyrs also only live 10 to 15 years after their 18th birthday when they're sent out on these hunting missions. They're not immortal and hunting is dangerous. They hunt fugitives who no one else could or was willing to go after. Each martyr is given certain items to make their job easier. Transporters - a colored gem that helps a martyr appear anywhere - are tear dropped shaped. And they exude a special aura only gods can emit. I know because my sister was a martyr. I told you she died young, but never why or how. These earrings were hers. That's how I knew what her necklace was at dinner. But she might not being a martyr. She might have really inherited it. She could be a regular human" Kitty says finally taking a breath to breathe. We all looked at her gobsmacked.
"But?" I question, feeling like she wasn't done.
Kitty sighed, "If she just disappeared like the king said, that means she knows how to use it. And she has a duty to the gods. I'm not sure what the rules are for humans, but for witches, once they find their mate they were allowed to leave. The last human martyr was rumored to have found a destined one but once the gods refused to allow her to quit, they killed him. Then placed a bounty on her head, exiling her. She went on a killing rampage, wiping out millions of different species. So it was always thought that humans were no longer allowed to become martyrs. If she is what I think, she would have to reject Adonis to keep them both safe" she finishes sadly.
"Well no f*****g way" I finally say breaking the silence. "He's f*****g feral! And he only spent an hour with her. If she rejects him, he'll literally die! I won't have it. She loves him, I know she does! f**k those bullshit gods! They're not gonna break their hearts. Not on my f*****g watch!" I stomp my foot, in full tantrum mode.
"Can you find her? Do you have any spells or herbs to draw her out? Find her location? Anything?" I ask, the gears in my head turning. I walk over to my dresser, grabbing my tablet. I see a small smile cross Eli's face.
"If you say I handle business like my brother, so help me goddess I will scream like there's no tomorrow" I warn, without looking up.
He holds his hands up in mock defeat. "Maybe, I need to do some research. It might take a day or two to perfect the spell though. If it works." Kitty says.
"Okay, let's make it half a day. Eli, I need you to be full on Alpha. Ellie, you're acting Luna. There's some things at the town that need some checking up on Eli. Ellie please make sure all of our pack members are comfortable and taking care of. Eli, I also need training to resume. It's been a couple of days and we still need to be at our best and on our toes. Kitty you work on your spell and you let me know what you need. I'm gonna try to get through to your highness" I say responding to emails on my ipad. I've always wanted to own my own business. And thanks to my big brother, any business I've ever wanted to run, I've gotten. I love the thrill and pride, building a thriving business from the ground up provided. To be a leader without having to beat someone to a pulp.
"What's gonna happen with Don?" Eli asks as we all exit my room.
"What do you mean? He gonna come with us" I say turning the hall and getting ready to enter the hidden room that leads to the dungeon.
"Klaus, I don't think that's a good idea. He's unstable" Eli warns.
I nod the girls off and stopped at the pillar that moves to show the heavy, steel door.
"You let me worry about that." I say making my way downstairs.
Evie
Jaqui wanted me to stay in Russia with her as she finished some business but I decided to go back home to Hawaii. I had a dull pain in my heart and a migraine that wouldn't go away. After two days, I finally heard from the siren princess herself.
Puerto Rico. Now. The beautiful Russian voice echoed through my head.
I groaned. I'm really not in the mood for a vacation. Suddenly my house began to shake. WTF? Just then a bright light shone from my ceiling and the hologram of a short, round bald man with a long gray beard appeared in the middle of the light.
"Lord Micheal, what do I owe this favor?" I ask blandly, not even trying to feign interest as to why an elder was visiting me at home.
"Evie. Have you forgotten about a certain clan of vampires you were supposed to dispose of?" He asks, clear disgust on his face.
Damn it. I did forget. I forgot hard. Not knowing what to say, I stood quiet. He looked at me and shook his head. Smug old bastard.
"This is not like you, to skimp on your duties. Too much freedom is what I think. It would do you good to be relocated back to the castle to remind you of the obedience this job requires." He says with a sick glint on happiness in his eyes.
I couldn't stop myself from shuddering in disgust. He immediately took offense and turned his nose up at me. "That was strike one. You are to go to puerto rico and hunt down a dragon lord - take care of him. Await for more jobs." He said crossing his short stubby arms over his white and gold robe. And with that, he was gone. Puerto Rico it is. I thought as I got up to change my clothes.
Jaqui met me outside of the hotel she told me to book at.
"Poseidon's wife is on vacation. She said to meet here." she said giving me a kiss on both cheeks.
"So goddesses take vacations? To normal places like normal people? Interesting" I said shocked.
Jaqui chuckled but raised her brow at my outfit. My hair was pulled into a high messy bun, I had on a black tank top with criss-cross straps. My black leather pants were form fitting but comfortable to move in and my favorite all black Timberlands were making another appearance. I had my dagger tucked safely in the back of my pants, hidden by my shirt.
"I have a job" I sighed, avoiding her disapproving eyes. "I'm off then, I'll meet you back here at six. Scouts honor" I say holding one hand up and the other on a imaginary bible.
Jaqui shook her head and watched me as I jumped into a Uber. I was on my way to the night club "Green Light" where it was rumored to be run by dragons. And the mafioso of this one, was my target. I just needed to make it through this and rush back to the hotel to handle some real problems. I stepped out of the Uber across the street from the deserted club in the center of downtown. Since it was day time, other than the occasional tourist, this party spot was dead. I saw two huge guards in suits, that reeked of dragons, standing at the entrance. I walked casually down the street, stopping infront of some shop windows, pretending to browse. I smiled at a couple taking pictures across the street with a selfie stick. I looked to the side of the building and saw a delivery truck, with workers loading boxes and bringing them to the back.
"Here, let me" I said smiling at the couple while walking across the street. They smiled and handed the phone to me. I moved closer and closer to the side of building pretending to get the right angle. Once I snapped a few photos, they thanked me and went on their way. No one seemed to be paying attention to me, so I quickly slipped in through the back door. It's almost too easy. I stealthily made my way down the dark, damp halls. This has to be a health code violation I thought as I walked down the dripping hallways. It was like a cold, wet cave. I could smell a hint of mold, making my stomach turn. I occasionally had to duck behind pillars, or dips in the walls to avoid detection. Thank goddess dragons are all brawn and no brain. And their sense of smell is nothing compared to a wolf. My sense of smell isn't great either but I follow energy. The more in power, or stronger a being is, the easier it is to pick up and follow their aura of strength. Hearing occasional bursts of laughter or conversations being had made me jump, but I had to keep my wits about me.
This particular dragon lord wasn't super strong, but stronger than the others in the club. So following his aura was a piece of cake. I felt gluttony and greed the closer I got to a tall, brown door - with green door jams and handle. I quickly took my hair out of my bun and knocked.
"What?!" the voice boomed on the other side.
"Hi, I wanted to see if there were any openings as a server, or bartender, or anything really" I said gingerly slipping in and closing the door behind me.
"Who the hell are you and what the hell are you doing in my office?" his voice boomed. He looked like every cliche mob boss in a movie. His dark green hair was slicked back, his round, sweaty body was stuffed into a black tuxedo and his eyes were gold. He looked truly disgusting.
"Please sir, I tried to interview with one of the men here but they wouldn't give me a chance. I just wanted to show the boss that I could be a asset." I said shyly, inching closer to his desk. I started to graze my hands over my body, trying to hide the urge to vomit. He was puffing on a unlit cigar, but smoke was still pouring out of his nostrils. He smiled, and I could see his sharp yellow teeth.
"Well, well. If you think you could prove to me how good you can be, I might consider giving you a job. You're pretty good with using your tongue but I wanna see if you can do better." He said pushing his chair back.
I inwardly cringed, but smiled again. "You look so tense" I say, seductively walking up to him. He tried to grab me but I quickly jumped behind his chair. I started to massage his shoulders and he let out the most disgusting growl I've ever heard. Just then there was a knock, that almost made me panic.
"Everything okay boss? We heard a growl and-" what I assumed to be security said while he walked in the room.
"GET THE f**k OUT" the boss yelled, green fire shooting out of his mouth.
The guard jumped and slammed the door shut.
"Now where were we?" I asked, rubbing his shoulders again.
"Your delicate little hands are amazing. I want to see what else they can do" He groaned, making my skin crawl.
"Oh yeah?" I asked, leaning over and whispering in his ear.
He let out another growl and I quickly grabbed a dragon shaped paper weight and bashed him over the head with it. I hit him so hard that it shattered in my hands. He immediately slumped over and I took my dagger out. I grabbed him by his hair, pulling his head up and made a clean cut straight across. Blood instantly started pooling underneath him, and at my feet. I was getting ready to leave when something hit me. If the gods are going to force me to take lives, they're going to have to share some of the guilt I feel. I took my dagger and in a couple of swings, took his head right off of his shoulders.
I threw it into a pool of pink glitter that appeared on the ground next to me. His head was in first class, on its way to Lord Micheals desk. I should of thought of doing this sooner, I thought. With my hands and feet now drenched in blood, I opened another portal to the front of the hotel. Once I stepped to the other side, with the sun setting I ran upstairs to clean up. I almost laughed at how easy that job was. They're f*****g with me, I thought to myself. Jaqui must have sensed I was close because her voice rang through my head.
Beach in front of hotel.
I raced downstairs and across the street, down the boardwalk where I spotted her under a cabana with a drink in her hand. Vodka straight. No ice. I smiled walking up to her. She's the one constant in my life. She never changes and I trust her with every fiber of my being.
"Don't be happy to see me yet" she warned. "Amphitrite had to leave. She said, 'What you're looking for is on beach' So here, drink. Vodka. Za zdarovje" She said handing me a glass.
I could see a hint of sadness in her eyes, or guilt? It's not her fault I got stood up. Anger started to bubble up in my chest.
"What? She just left? What a tosser! That's the problem with these bloody gods, they have no respect for others time or consideration for my life! A life that they're thoroughly f****d with!" I scream chugging the vodka.
"More vodka" Jaqui instructs the bartender, who is staring at us along with the other 50 patrons on the beach. "Long day" she says smiling, and silently apologizing as she takes the glasses from the bartender.
We sat on the beach, drinking for hours until the beach cleared out and the sky turned black. I was thoroughly drunk, my headache was worse but nothing compared to the pain I felt in my heart. I sat in the sand with my knees to my chest, staring at the stars. Even their beauty didn't lift my spirits. I could always gaze at the stars and feel at home. Not to sound cheesy, but now I had a hole in my heart that felt like it was growing everyday. Home. Pffft. Colorado could be home. I buried my head in my knees as a silent tear rolled down my cheek.
"My razberemsya, lyubov' moya. Ne volnuysya." (We'll figure it out my love. Don't worry) Jaqui says softly.
Whenever she drinks, she loses all ability to speak English. I can't help but smile at the comfort I feel from her words. But then a sharp pain hit my chest. I couldn't see anything besides Adonis. I could still feel the comfort and love I experienced once I laid eyes on him. I could feel a sob erupt from my chest and I wobbly got up and ran. I tripped a few times, and zigzagged, but I ran. I ran as fast I could, not caring where I ended up. That was until I hit what felt like a brick wall. I fell onto my backside, and once my double vision cleared, I looked up.
Stood before me was a 5'9, tan, classic surfer dude. He had sandy blonde hair that hung in waves at his shoulders and ocean blue eyes. He had tattoos on his arms and a seashell necklace. His crisp white tank top looked perfect on his sculpted chest. It complimented his purple and pink swim trunks. He gave me a small smile and gently took my hand to help me up.
"My, my! What do we have here?" A voice with a heavy southern drawl spoke from behind him. A small figure stepped from behind him and I stood frozen in place.
There she was, a 5'2 girl who looked exactly like me. Except she had peach colored skin, her bone straight lilac hair stopped at her elbows. Instead of her left eye being green like mine, hers was hazel, and her right one was green where my light brown one was. She had my button nose, my full lips, and even my ears. She had seven golden hoops in one ear and nine various sized gold earrings in the other. Her sleeve of colorful tattoos was a mixture of mermaids, pink wolves and other random things. She was wearing a light purple bikini top, that barely covered her big breasts, a purple jewel belly button ring and a holographic colored wrap hanging on her thick hips. Her hourglass shape was eerily similar to mine, and I couldn't break my eyes away from her. She smiled sweetly, holding out her perfectly manicured hand to me.
"I say my dear, we could be twins!" she says happily.
Go home, you're drunk, my mind screamed at me. I closed my eyes expecting for these strangers to be gone once I opened them. I could hear Jaqui stumbling behind me, finally catching up once she got her footing.
"Der'mo" (s**t) I heard her gasp.
Once I opened my eyes, my mirror image and the surf god were still standing infront of me, smiling. Yes Jaqui, s**t indeed.
