CHAPTER 3

1063 Words
Wow these people lives for scaring people! It was only the guard who was posted at the gate. I didn't notice he was standing from inside the gate, I guess I was too caught up in the thought of running away. “I am Camille Reinhold. I'm the new secretary of Mr. Davia-” “Enter.” I couldn't even finish introducing myself, the grim looking guard already pushed the right side of the gate open. “...Thank you very much!” Replying in a happy tone to people who only does the bare minimum is tiring as hell. I don't want to thank this guard…but a damned gun is sticking on his waist! “Walk straight. You'll find a house.” “Yes. Thank you.” Even his directions are unfriendly—why the heck am I expecting a mafia organization to be friendly in the first place?! The path was made of cobblestone, some green mosses were already sticking to each pavement making it slippery and dangerous to walk on. I shouldn't have worn heels—sneakers would have been more preferable…to run on. “...A house?” Is this actually a house?…It's more like a castle! Who could have known that in the middle of this dense forest located in some corner of the city lies this huge mansion?! Each of the footsteps I made to get closer to the house became heavier and heavier. Heck this is scaring the sh*t out of me! Who knows what I'll see when I open those big doors? I should just make a run for it… I was contemplating once more between running away and saving my own skin, or head in and risk my life for thirty billion dollars when the big doors creaked open. “I presume you're Miss Clamille Reinhold. Please come in.” This time, it's an old man dressed in a neat tuxedo who greeted me. “O-okay…” I really can't run away now. I wanted to cry my eyeballs out but I can't…What if they shoot me on the spot if I cry? As soon as my foot stepped in the house, a deteriorating atmosphere slapped me in the face. It's been a long time since I encountered an atmosphere like this. Though I thought my brain was just acting up. The interior is actually nice. Deeply shaded blood red walls and fancy golden trinkets were the first things that I noticed. “Follow me.” As I followed the old man, I saw paintings of all shapes and sizes being hung on the wall. One painting that made my head turn was a painting of a family. In the painting, there was a beautiful woman, an old looking man, and three little boys that seemed to resemble each other. ‘The Lucian family…’ “The master is waiting for you in that room.” “Thank you.” Damn, it's becoming my habit to thank people I don't know now… I clutched my bag tightly one last time before placing a hand on the doorknob. The old man left already… God, please don't let me die so early. I'm actually working hard for world peace here… As I twisted the doorknob, the door opened slightly. A sudden faint scent of lemon waffled my nose. It's surprising since the inside of the mansion only smelled like a dull aircon. “Hello?” I softly called out, not wanting for the boss to appear at this moment. I hope he's not here and we'll have to postpone today's events… “Come in.” A faint voice that sounded like it came from someone deep inside the room answered. Damn it. Before I pushed the door open, I swallowed a mouthful of air to clear my throat. But as I took a step inside the room, not a single soul was found. I could have sworn someone answered. I'm definitely sure it wasn't from my imagination. I couldn't be a ghost right? As I turned and twisted my head to look for a person inside the room, my eyes got caught on a conspicuous pile of paper on the only table of the room. Could this be…where the mainframe computer is hidden? It could be since this area is quite difficult to locate and target…but It's also very unlikely. As I continued to make my way over the table, my heart rate began to increase again. If I were a mafia boss I'd get a separate building, heavily guarded with guns and other weapons to hide my mainframe computer. I wouldn't put something so important in an unguarded house like this. I stopped as soon as I was able to get a good look at the papers. I didn't bother picking them up since I might leave fingerprints. Though the papers didn't have anything noteworthy. The table didn't even have a single computer screen or a laptop even! Heck this is more difficult than I thought. Maybe inside the drawer… As I placed a hand under my chin, pondering on whether I should take this opportunity to rummage the table drawer, I suddenly felt a presence behind me. I once thought that my fast heartbeat was already annoying enough, having my body instinctively hold my breath is way worse! “What are you looking at?” A cold and deep voice of a man that came from behind me rang through my ears gently. I couldn't even process how close the man was, until I felt his hot breath hit the side of my neck. My head unconsciously shot up and averted my eyes from the stack of paper in front of me—but of all the circumstances! My eyes decided to be curious and slowly shifted my gaze to the visible man's head over my shoulder. It seemed as though I was looking down on him now! Just my luck! The man decided to tilt his head, making our eyes meet! “I said, what were you looking at?” The man repeated his question. Thankfully, the man took the luxury to stand up properly, leaving my neck to breathe in fresh air again. When the man finally left my side, it felt as though a thorn had been removed from my lungs. Thank god—God damn it! Why isn't this man wearing any clothes?!
