The Ancient Beast (Adere's Mission)

Chapter 55

At the rocky mountains of the land of Akuzu, Adere was so worried and Renu who was trying to calm him down realised that he was unable to be calmed down. It was not as she expected it but then all she wanted to have him do was to listen to her a bit.

"I know that you are worried. I am worried as well but what we can do right now is to leave here in search of them. We can not say that here is where they have been taken to or there is where they have been dragged to but then if we can look for them perhaps we can be able to find them. All I am saying is that it is time for us to do what must be done. You have to inform your friend Edu to get prepared for what lies ahead and if he is not going to continue this journey with us then we will have to go on without him"

Adere then decided that they were going to leave without Edu and that was how they left the rest at the rocky mountains.

At the rocky mountains where Edu and the rest were, he was expecting that Adere and Renu came back and told them of how they were no longer able to know the whereabouts of Adere's mother and Mori. He waited and when he did not see them he sighed and said to himself, "Could it be that they too have been taken by the watchers of the land of Abah or is it that there is something else that I am supposed to know which I am not knowing?" He kept thinking aloud until one of the elders of the land of Zinu who was with them walked up to him and said, "I think having to stay here all day thinking of what might have happened to them I believe it would be more noble for us to stand on our feet and look for them. If we do not know where they are it is our responsibility to look for them. I mean if you check it it looks like a planned work; I mean first it was Adere's mother with Mori and then Adere with Renu. I strongly believe that they planned their exit from our circle and I am sure that if they have chosen to be on their way on their own it is not in our choice or decision to look for them..We cannot be seen trying to force anyone to stay with us. I am a Zinu and I am aware that Adere and the rest who have left us here are also from the land of Zinu. One thing I am also aware of is the fact that I am not going to allow myself to be shown a way where I know I am not going to see myself traveling upon. I can not stay away from this path where I have seen the right path. Allow me to say this to you; not everyone who stands on his feet knows exactly what it means to be a true believer. Nobody wants to do anything for anybody if everyone is against everyone..Let us remain here Edu and let the world find it's way to wherever they have deemed right for themselves"

The elder thought his words had gotten to Edu but that was not so, infact Edu was beginning to think that the best thing for him to do was to leave the Zinu elders there in the rocks and go looking for Adere and the rest. He did not want to leave them just like that and he thought that it would be better to leave them while they were unaware. He was not going to allow anyone to distract him from what he was planning. He was thinking that if the watchers of the land of Abah had gotten their hands on Adere's mother then Adere must have gone looking for his mother. He decided that he was going to leave the rocks, not to go looking for Adere but instead to know for sure if the watchers of the land of Abah already had his mother. He then said to the elders,"You see, I have heard all that you have said and I am with you on that idea. Meanwhile the only issue I have is that I am pressed right now and if you look around you will see that the rest of us are already hungry and they would be needing something to eat. I do not want us to go about thinking that the best way to make something out of anything was to allow things to happen out nowhere. I will go look for animals to hunt and prepare for us to feed on" The elder had heard what he said but he said it would be a good idea if Edu did not go alone hunting but Edu already made up his mind that he was going to go alone. The thing was that as he was making up his mind to go alone the elder continued to counter that decision as he insisted that he was going to go look for animals to hunt with Edu. Edu did not want to keep pressurising him to stay because he knew that if he presurrised him too much the rest would know that he was also planning to leave them the same way that Adere and the rest did. He then decided that if the old man insisted on following him he was going to allow it but no entirely for he would not want anyone to delay his jouney and his plan was more important to him than anything else. It was at this moment that the elder stood up and said to the rest, "I will be going for a hunt with him. look after yourselves while we are aware but while you are looking after yourselves ensure that you get firewoods for the preparing of the animals that we are going to hunt" The rest nodded and then he turned and said to Edu, "Now let us go" Edu did not say another word but led the way and the man followed.

They had left the mountain side and were almost upon a cliff when Edu stopped and the man wanted to know why he stopped, "Are you okay? If you are stopping here I can say that there is no way we will be able to hunt anything here. There is nothing here to hunt and we had better start thinking of a way to make a way for ourselves instead of allowing ourselves to die of hunger. Do you understand?"

"Do you know why I stopped here?" Edu asked and then turned to face him and the man shook his head and so he continued, "Very well then. I have always tried to ask myself why it is that most people allow their own stubbornness to lead them to their early grave. If we allow things like this to be the end of us all it means that we have just begun to allow things to creep into our heads without we knowing about it. Let me now tell us this simple truth before it is too late; I have said this before and now I am going to repeat myself again, I would rather not have anything to do with anyone than to have something to do with someone who has nothing to give me, who has nothing to show for their actions. I am very much away of what is happening, something that you and your kind would not be able to understand..Who am I to keep on trying to convince you to understand me from the very bottom which you do not? instead look at it this way; I am going to make sure that you do not follow me to where I am going to because I tried to make you stop but you said no, I tried to make you to understand that the things on board are very much more powerful than you can imagine but you insisted that you were going to ensure that I stay out of the way. I am going to make sure that despite the fact that you have gotten the very reason that you wanted to get there is nothing else that I can do for you now. Elder I am so sorry to say this but then let it be known to you that I am never going to allow anyone to be the reason why things are getting as bad as they are getting. I am also very much aware that my heart is pounding because I chose to have it pound. I am going to have to have your head right here and right now. I am not sure if you understood what I have just said but whether you understood it or not it is none of my business; all I want you to know is that your end has come and you are going to face it"

At that moment the elder knew that his end had come but he did not want to admit it just yet and even if it was true that his end had come he was not sure if he was ready to embrace it. Infact he was not sure if death was what he bargained for at that moment and so he looked at the face of Edu thoroughly and then as if he understood what Edu had said to him and as if he was ready to admit it the way that it seemed he was not ready to die yet.

"Edu is your name right? I can sense in your voice that there is something that you desperately want to achieve and you feel that the only way to achieve that which you have prepared yourself to achieve was to enable yourself to have something in mind which would help you to overcome it. I know that there is something that is troubling you and so I ask not just like a companion nor a friend but as a father who wants to know why his son is so sulky; why do you want to do this terrible thing? if you kill me do you not know that it is against the very land that you walk upon? I am not sure that you are aware of the consequences of your actions, I am not sure if you have come to understood the very reason things happen the way that they happen but if truth must be told it takes just one thing to make right two things that are spoiling. Can you share with me what has made you this way and why you have decided to do this sacrilegious thing that you are willing and about to do here and now?"

Edu was not ready for that. He did plan to kill the man and just as he was almost ready to do that he was to waste his time discussing with his supposedly victim. He looked at the man carefully and then sighed.

"Old man" he began, "I am not sure if you understand the reason behind my actions but I see no reason why I should not tell you the reason. What you need to have in your mind is that at this point there is no going back for me and I have made up my mind. What you have got to do for me at this instance is to enable me to have only one reason to understand that I have to do this and yet not have anything to blame myself about. At this point I am going to do what I have said I am going to do and nothing is going to stop me. I have not come this far so that I listen to your words and then change my mind instead I have thread this far the accomplish what I have started and there is no one who is going to stop me. You should have stayed back at the rocks with the rest but instead you chose to follow me. Are you not aware that following me about is as bad as the very thing that is about to happen to you now? I am so sorry that this is going to be your fate. I am really so sorry"
