LEONARD’S POV
I have some few contacts in the palace, she will sale through the screening exercise” I assured Selene.
“Perfect” She exhaled, retuning to Lunar.
“Selene” I called back
“What”
“Do not breathe a word”
She planted a finger on her lips and turned away.
This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for, to mark Lunar as my mate. Tomorrow night is the best time to get this done. I will wait until moon is fully positioned in the sky. Lure her to the mini garden behind our mansion at my hour of transformation and bite her. Having the blood of a werewolf will make her pass the test with effortless grace.
I grinned, proud of my strategy.
Shoving my hands into my pocket, I took giant strides through the hallway.
Arriving at the balcony, I see Lunar smiling at the ambience in garden.
“You like it?” I asked
With a smile she nodded.
“It’s beautiful.”
“I know, right. It’s more beautiful at night” I enticed
“Really?” She shrieked
I nodded, shrinking my lips.
“We could go on a night tour tomorrow to enjoy the beauty” I proposed
“That would be awesome” she approved.
“Yes” I grabbed the air, clenched feast. Our eyes clocked, we giggled.
LUNAR’s POV
A broad grin spread through my face as I see Leonard in excitement.
He has never hid his affection for me even though I can’t say the same. I do know I feel safe with him.
To think that I’ve been fantasizing about how the garden and mansion would look at night. Just when I was thinking of who would accompany me, he comes with the offer. I shrink my shoulders in pleasure.
“Have you been practicing?” Selene blurted, interrupting my fantasy.
“I nodded”
I caught her staring at my hair, sadness hovering around her eyes. The look on her face were so loud that my heart shattered.
“I broke a dish, so my uncle cut it”
“What— who does that?” She thundered
I folded my lips.
Leonard looks at me, with emotion in his eyes.
“I’m so sorry.” Selene, crooned. “Come with me” She beckoned, pulling me to herself, I followed her.
We arrived at her room.
Tapping a stool in front of her, she asked me to sit.
I heaved a deep sigh as I gave her full access to do to my hair as she delighted.
After few movements of combs, ointments and hair accessories, she shrieked.
“Shala” Proud of her achievement, she clapped her hands.
I rose to my feet, looking straight into the mirror, I never knew I was this beautiful. I had mixed feelings.
Massaging my hands, I looked over my shoulders. Leonard was standing in front of me.
“Whoa— he sputtered.
A smile crawled onto my cheeks. I scratched my suddenly itchy neck.
“The best thing you’ve done” he teased, rolling his eyes at Serene
“And what is that supposed to mean?” She retorted, chasing him away from the room. They both rambled on as they slide down the hall way, playing and giggling.
I smirked, returning to the mirror to steal more glances. Selene had created a pathway at the side of my hair, styling it nicely with some accessories: I could pass for the daughter of a noble.
My smile faded. I looked away, heading for my room.
LEONARD’s POV
The sun had retired for the day. I lay on my bed, unable to be still. I can’t get Lunar off my mind. I looked at the clock, it was taking forever to move forward.
I got up from bed, paced a little and returned. Soon the moon was ripe in the sky, in it’s full glory.
“Now is the time” I whispered.
I hurried from my bed, taking quick steps to Lunar’s room, but she wasn’t there. I rushed checked other rooms but nothing.
“I guess she’s waiting for me” I convinced myself, scurrying to the garden. She was nowhere in sight.
The moon climbed higher into the sky, casting its silver glow on the garden.
I screeched at the sudden sharp pain that arose from my ribs. My heart palpitating into my ears like a war drum, I groaned.
My eyes darted back and forth to catch a glimpse of Lunar.
I see a silhouette like hers, staring from a distance, but I’m not sure.
Before I could decide if whether to confirm or not, my vision began to fade as my muscles stretched with reckless abandon. Crawls springing from my fingers, I fall to the ground and let out a guttural growl.
LUNAR’s POV
My eye’s traveled through the hallway waiting for Leonard. He was not in his room. As I walked to the garden, the moonlight left twisted shadows of some nicely scented florals. My gaze fell on a shiver-igniting creature twisting its body as one in fight.
I tried to move closer for a proper view but my pounding heart prevented me. I plodded backward, trying my best to avoid being seen.
The excruciating sounds from the garden sent daggers through my heart, my legs shivered. The now beast-like figure seemed to be coming after me in fury.
I ran without looking back away from the garden. My heart threatened to jump out.
“What was that?” I blurted, trying to catch my breath.
Hiding behind a picture frame in the hallway, the figure disappeared after a fruitless search.
My mind travelled to the night I was bitten by a little boy. My head began to spin.
“Ah!” I grabbed my head, collapsing on the floor. That was the last I remembered.
A tiny ray of the sun found it’s way into my face. My eyes dimmed open, perusing around the room to get a hold of the where I was. The room was brightly painted with drawings of three children playing on one side of the wall.
Staring at the wall, I broke into a smile. Tried to lift myself but was too weak.
“It’s okay” Selene says, patting me back to relax.
The doorknob turns, Leonard faltered into the room, and stared at me. I could tell that so many questions hovered around his mind.
He took few steps towards me but stops. Ran his hand through his hair and manage to speak.
“Lunar”
I stared at him, emotionless.
His eyes searching mine for details from last night, I ignored.
“How are you?” He asked.
I nodded.
“The challenge is about to begin. Are you sure you can go like this?” Serene blurted, panic in her eyes.
I staggered away from the bed and headed for the door.
“Lunar” Selene and Leonard, ran after me.
Getting to the hallway, the pillars looked like they were fighting themselves. I staggered to a fall.
