“Anyways so what else do you guys do?” Rahul asked making me and Sahil look at each other.
“You really want to know?” Sahil asked.
“Yeah, I guess,” Rahul said.
“Rahul, trust me you don’t want to find out.” Ram uncle said and Rahul frowned.
“Why? What do they do?” he asked Uncle.
“Let’s go I will show you but you have to promise first, you have to take it lightly and you can't be angry at us,” Sahil said and Rahul knitted his brows.
“It depends on what it is. I hope it's not drugs or something worse.” He said and I giggled at his imagination.
Sahil glared at me causing me to control my giggles.
“Let's go to the Game room again,” Sahil said we all moved to the playroom. It had a projector and screen too for watching movies etc.
We all took seats on the sofa and chair. Sahil started the disc.
It was a movie made by Sahil and me over the years where we mimicked Uncle, Rahul and my parents. The best mimicry was the latest one from a couple of months back when I acted like how Rahul acted in office.
We always used to keep adding bits to the video.
I was very nervous about Rahul’s reaction as the movie started and found him glaring at me, I averted my gaze from him and started fidgeting with the hem of my top when suddenly I heard loud laughter.
I looked up to see Rahul laughing pointing at me which made Sahil laugh too.
“Shut up you two, stop pulling her leg. My poor girl.” Uncle said and they tried to control their laughter. Note the word tried.
By the end of the movie, we all were laughing hard. Rahul and Sahil almost rolling on the floor.
“So what is the new bit to add to it?” Rahul asked and Sahil acted like I was acting at the start of the movie fidgeting with his shirt like I was doing a while ago.
“No way, Sahil, I will kill you if you do my mimicry,” I said and he laughed.
“Why? You did mine, why can’t he do yours?” Rahul asked and I was at a loss of words.
“Umm because he is my best friend and best friends protect each other,” I said stuttering.
“Awww Sanju Baby is angry? Get lost, after a long time I got a chance to get back at you for all the things you did to me in college.” Sahil said and I looked at him shocked.
“Sahil, my friend, my support system, don’t you love me? Did you forget I am your best friend? I know you love me and won't make fun of me, right?” I tried to convince him.
“What does my love for you got to do with making fun of you. I am so going to do it Sanju, let's see if you can stop me.” Sahil said and left the room to get his camera, I ran behind him.
As soon as Sahil entered his room I pushed him on the bed and quickly grabbed the camera from the coffee table. Sahil caught my leg as I was trying to escape from the room, I fell down with a thud. Sahil tried to snatch the camera and I tried to open it to take out the memory card. We were fighting with each other, I was pulling his hair and he was pushing my wrist away from his hair when the room door swung open and Rahul entered the room with the uncle, Rahul looked at us in surprise however Uncle was used to of me and Rahul fighting like siblings.
“When will you two grow up? Sahil, leave her right now.” Ram uncle scolded both of us.
“Dad that’s not fair. You always take her side.” Sahil complained as we both got up from the floor.
“Of course he will, I am his daughter he never had and you are the monkey he brought from the zoo,” I said and Uncle gave me a stern look shutting my mouth.
“Are you guys always like this?” Rahul asked.
“Always” I and Sahil replied together and then laughed together.
“I thought you were a mature girl by the way you behaved in office,” Rahul commented looking at me.
“Excuse me, first of all, my maturity has nothing to do with me being fun and secondly you are never in the office to even notice me then how do you know how I behave in office?” I said and left the room.
It was already 5:00 PM so I decided to leave for my home. I said bye to uncle and was about to leave when Rahul stopped me.
“Wait, it looks like it will rain, you shouldn’t go on your scooter. Come, I will drop you.” Rahul said picking up his car keys.
“Ummm no its okay, I like the rains, it's okay if I get drenched,” I said trying to avoid going with him.
“I am sure it's okay for you to get drenched but it's not okay for you to skip office on the first day of your joining the project if you get sick.” He reminded me about the office and the project making me follow him silently.
Sahil was smiling at me but I didn’t know the reason. I hoped he was not thinking that I would try to impress his brother, no ways I am not that courageous and that was one of the reasons I was single.
Rahul sat in the driver’s seat while I took the passenger’s seat and he started the ignition. Soon we were on our way to my home in silence.
“I do notice,” he said out of the blue and I looked at him with confused expressions.
He looked and me and like he understood I didn’t get him he explained himself.
“I do notice you in the office whenever I am there. Even when I am not there I get all the reports about you.” Raul said and I looked at him with wide eyes. Never in my dreams, I thought he would notice me, a nobody, a junior executive.
He chuckled at my expression and that did the trick to embarrass me. I blushed a little and looked away.
“Sanjana, I know you have a crush on me, I was told a few times,” Rahul said and I looked at him again with wide eyes.
“How?” That’s all I could say and then it dawned on me.
“Obviously Sahil” I said and he chuckled shaking his head.
“No it wasn’t Sahil but I am surprised to know he knows about your crush and is not jealous.” He said and I frowned.
“Why would he be jealous?” I asked and he shrugged his shoulders.
“Because he is usually possessive about things and people he loves and the way you two behave with each other you both seemed to be pretty close.” He said and I nodded my head smiling.
“Yes we are very close, in fact, he is the only friend who knows me in and out,” I said and he smiled.
“But who told you if not Sahil?” I asked blushing a little.
“I observed you a lot of time secretly looking at me and then pretending to be busy when I or someone else looks at you,” he said and I felt even more embarrassed I kept looking down at my lap fidgeting my fingers.
“Hey its alright, don’t be embarrassed. You know I felt a little jealous yesterday seeing your and Sahil’s friendship. I never had any such friends in my life since mom passed away. Since then Dad was struggling between expanding the business and raising us, so I tried to ease his responsibilities by taking responsibility for Sahil and my studies and then career. I kept my focus on studies at first and then got busy with business, the only friend I ever had was Sahil. I wish I too had a friend like you two have each other” he said and I felt sad for him.
Everyone needs friends, it is very difficult to keep everything to yourself, all the feelings, anger, sadness, joy, etc.
“Hey I could be your friend too,” I said and he looked at me surprised.
“What? Don’t look at me as if I have grown two horns on my head. It's okay if you don’t want to be my friend, I know I am a little weird” I said and he chuckled.
“No that’s not it, I like weird.” He said smiling at me.
“Cool so now I am your friend and you can call me anytime to talk about anything. Okay? And one more thing, I am a little crazy and I love my friends who bring chocolates for me.” I said and he laughed.
Oh god, his laughter was so good to my ears. I felt proud that I was able to make him laugh as I never saw him laughing before today.
“Take a right from the next red light and third from the left is my house,” I said and he took the turn.
He stopped the car at the side in front of my house, I asked him to come and meet my family but he said he will meet them some other time and left.
I entered my home with a smile. Mom and Dad were in the living room watching a movie together while having their evening tea.
“Hey Mom, hey Dad,” I said slopping on the couch after taking a cookie from the plate on the table.
“Hey Sanju, how was your day?” Dad asked.
“Oh, it was fun as usual,” I said and mom looked at me amused.
“As usual?” She asked and I shook my head.
“No, actually it was more fun. You know what happened today, the great RAHUL SACHDEV decided to join me, Sahil and Uncle in the fun. And we made him watch the mimicry movie and Mom, you should have seen his face whenever the scenes of me and Sahil acting like him came on the screen.” I said and laughed remembering his expressions.
“Uh-huh, it looks like someone had a really good time with her crush,” Dad commented and mom agreed.
“Oh please you guys, stop teasing me. But yes I am happy because now Rahul and I are friends too. You remember mom, how sad Sahil used to be when we became friends since he had no good friends. Today Rahul told me he too has no real friends, only business partners and some old college friends who are all busy.” I told Mom and her eyes softened.
“Poor boys, but I am sure now that he has an amazing friend like you, he will too become happy go lucky like Sahil in no time.” Mom said.
“I hope so,” I said and then we talked about random things.
