DANGEROUS INTIMACY

259 Words
The fog was heavier than usual that evening, curling like smoke around the cliffs of Greyhaven. Clara waited at the edge of the pier, the boards slick beneath her boots, and she felt her pulse quicken as Elijah approached. There was something different in him tonight, a mixture of urgency and hesitation that made her stomach twist. “Clara,” he said softly, “we can’t keep pretending that the past doesn’t exist.” She shook her head, trying to maintain control. “We’re not pretending. We’re surviving.” “No,” he countered, stepping closer. “We’re alive, but not living. Not together, not fully. I’ve tried for twenty years to erase you from my life, and yet…” His voice faltered as his fingers brushed hers. The contact was electric, sending warmth along her spine that both frightened and thrilled her. Their eyes met, and for a long moment, time seemed to freeze. The fog wrapped around them, hiding them from the rest of the world. For once, the past and the present collided, and Clara felt herself drawn into a gravity she could not resist. Their first kiss since his return was hesitant at first, testing boundaries, tasting memory. But as the seconds stretched, desire overtook caution. Hands explored, breaths mingled, and for the first time in decades, they allowed themselves to feel without restraint. When they finally pulled apart, their foreheads pressed together, Clara whispered, “This is dangerous.” “I know,” he said, voice low and trembling. “But it’s real.”
