CHLEO I remained in that room for three weeks. I’d been given a cell phone, but it was only programmed to allow calls and texts within Topaz. I couldn’t contact anyone outside of the pack lands. Alpha Jackson sent Dahlia, one of his pack members, with breakfast and lunch daily. The first week, she wouldn’t speak to me apart from ‘Good morning’ and ‘Enjoy your food,’ but I always tried to engage in conversation. By the second week, we would chat briefly about her day. By the third week, Dahlia would stay with me for thirty to forty-five minutes and ask me questions about my life. We’d become friends.
