The alpha zombie had gathered its own team and proudly assumed the role of leader. As it bared its fangs at Lin Hao, he knew it was a warning to behave.
Lin Hao glanced at the little girl, who was now tightly closing her eyes and hugging her knees, trying to make herself as small and hidden as possible.
The alpha zombie moved closer. It had barely eaten the previous girl before she turned, and now it had found another small prey. It couldn't let the others take it away.
The alpha zombie kept glancing at Lin Hao. It had known from their first encounter that Lin Hao was trouble, but it didn't think he would actually dare to fight.
"Are you really going to save her?" Gou Dan asked in Lin Hao’s mind.
Lin Hao didn’t respond but gripped the knife tighter.
"Shall I scan his stats?" Gou Dan asked again.
Lin Hao hesitated, then said, "Scan."
In less than a second, a stats panel appeared in front of Lin Hao. It wasn’t his own, but seeing the numbers almost made him drop the knife in shock.
Name: Wang Dazhuang
Level: 2
Title: Butcher
Skills: Powerful Throw
Strength: 25
Spirit: 5
Speed: 15
Stamina: 20
Evaluation: You have some strength, but don’t get cocky. With these stats, even a dog could beat you.
Cold sweat broke out on Lin Hao's forehead. Except for spirit, the alpha zombie outclassed him in every aspect. How could he fight this?
Forget it, it's just a little girl. This world is full of monsters. You can’t save every little girl, a voice in Lin Hao's head suggested.
The alpha zombie leisurely approached the girl, confident she couldn't escape. It seemed to know that chewing slowly was good for digestion. It must have been a good child before becoming a zombie.
The alpha zombie squatted down, sniffing the girl’s scent. His hunger intensified. Unable to resist any longer, he opened his mouth and moved to bite her neck.
He thought he would taste delicious flesh immediately, but good things are often delayed by pesky interruptions, like the small zombie with a knife.
Seeing the alpha zombie squatting, Lin Hao couldn't hold back and rushed forward. Luckily, the alpha zombie hadn't intended to bite her immediately. Just as he was about to, Lin Hao kicked him in the mouth.
The alpha zombie's view shifted thirty degrees. He saw the sunlight streaming through the window, reminiscent of his lost youth.
But youth was gone, and he was furious.
The alpha zombie stood up and looked at the small figure beside him. Was this the one who had disturbed his meal? If so, then he would die.
Before the alpha zombie could react, Lin Hao picked up the girl and ran. He had kicked the zombie hard, but it had only turned its neck slightly. Fighting such a tough opponent? Lin Hao still wanted to preserve his own life.
The girl looked up in disbelief at the alpha zombie's enraged face. The alpha turned and roared at the other zombies, leading a horde in pursuit. The girl clung to Lin Hao’s shoulder, terrified.
Lin Hao’s speed was only 5, and with an extra weight, it dropped even further.
By the time they reached the second floor, zombies were coming down from the third floor, summoned by the alpha zombie to block their escape.
Lin Hao placed the girl in a corner and hissed at the zombies above and below.
The girl was bewildered. She had thought she was doomed, but now... a zombie had saved her?
The alpha zombie, enraged, faced Lin Hao, growling as if scolding him for stealing its food.
Lin Hao wouldn’t respond to such a mindless creature. The alpha zombie was clearly furious. Not only was the girl in danger, but Lin Hao himself might not survive.
With zombies blocking the way, the girl shouted, “Sister, save me!” and tried to run past Lin Hao.
Lin Hao quickly pulled her back, gesturing frantically, but she refused to listen, determined to reach her sister, despite her sister having been turned into a zombie.
Lin Hao knew that for them to survive, he had to kill the alpha zombie. He realized that if he defeated the alpha, the other zombies might submit to him or at least scatter.
"Exactly," Gou Dan said in his mind. "Kill him, and the zombies might back off."
Lin Hao’s resolve hardened. For survival, for his remaining faith, he had to fight.
The alpha zombie, mouth wide open, was about to attack. But before he could, Lin Hao made his move.
Despite his meager speed, Lin Hao launched himself at the alpha zombie, biting down on its neck with his sharp teeth. He discovered why zombies didn’t eat each other—the flesh was bitter, more so than medicine.
But biting was Lin Hao’s only attack. He clamped down, determined to tear off a piece.
Even with all his strength, Lin Hao could only bite a little. His fruit knife could only penetrate a third of the way, causing no real harm to the alpha zombie.
The alpha zombie, now truly enraged, tossed Lin Hao against the wall.
The girl stood frozen, no longer trying to reach her sister.
"Roar!!" The alpha zombie’s roar was different, coming from a level-two butcher zombie.
The alpha, eyes red with fury, decided to end this nuisance. He opened his mouth, not towards the girl, but towards Lin Hao.
