Elena’s POV When I arrived at the house, the door to his room was slightly open. I went closer, intending to open the door when I heard some faint voices coming from inside the room. I gently opened the door and there was my Rex gently caressing the body of another girl as they both laid on his bed. At that point, I couldn’t find the right words to use. My mind went blank and I froze. “What is this?” I managed to choke out, stepping further into the room, though every part of me wanted to run. Rex barely looked over his shoulder. “Elena! You’re early.” I clenched my fist, as I tried to reign in my anger. "Who is she?" I demanded, ignoring the lump in my throat. “I told you not to come early. Did you really have to disobey me?” He yelled, with a bit of annoyance in his voice. The corners of his eyes creased with irritation. There was no hint of remorse in his tone. “That doesn’t answer my question, how dare you!” My face twisted in anger. He sighed, a look of disdain flashed across his face. He made it seem like I had interrupted his private moment. “Her name is Sophia. She’s my mate.” “Your mate?” I asked, still surprised by his response. “What about us? We have been together for two years and this is what you do?” “I thought we were going to have our mating ceremony soon…” I blinked, still trying to make sense of his words. “I don’t owe you an explanation, Elena. I am sure you know how it is with mates, Sophia is my mate and there is nothing I could do.” He cut me off, his voice cold and indifferent. “Reject her! It’s that simple.” I replied almost immediately. “Come on, you must be joking. She is pregnant! She is carrying my unborn son. I can’t abandon her at this point.” He snapped. My heart clenched involuntarily, as his words registered. She was pregnant? It struck me that Sophia was the same girl rex had introduced a year ago as his friend. It was obvious she knew about me all along. I have been fooled all this while. “I need an heir to claim full control of this pack and you know how long I have been waiting to get that. You deliberately denied me access to your body and Sophia gave me that which you couldn’t give me.” He said, a smirk on his face. I looked over at the so called Sophia girl, and she had a satisfied grin on her lips. “I never thought you could do this to me,” I murmured, as my eyes welled up with tears. “You have been with her all this while!” Rex betayal felt like I had been punched in the gut. “Welcome to my world!” His eyes met with mine and there wasn’t an ounce of regret, he felt comfortable with all he was doing. “Wait, what were you expecting, Elena? You are just a Beta’s daughter with no wolf.” “You could have told me about your plans but you chose to lie to me. You will pay for this!” I exclaimed, taking a step forward with my anger rising. “What now? Are you going to fight me?” A slight smirk formed on his lips again. “I didn’t deceive you, Elena. You made it difficult for me. Did you think I was going to wait for that ridiculous mating ceremony night just to have you?” "Because I thought you respected me! I thought you loved me!" I choked out barely keeping the tears which threatened to fall at bay. Rex rolled his eyes, turning back toward Sophia like I didn’t even exist anymore. “It’s over, Elena. Just accept it and leave at once.” Without thinking, I lashed out, my hand striking across his face. “How could you do this to me?” I cried, my voice shaking. “I gave you everything!” “You never gave me what mattered. Now leave me alone, I have found someone else. Move on Elena” he said with no remorse in his tone. I felt so humiliated, as I watched him gently talk to Sophia. I ran out of his apartment, not stopping until I got to the car. His words stung more than the sight of him with her, he wasn’t just throwing me away, he was erasing me. Just after I drove far away from his apartment, I stopped and pulled out my phone, my hands shaking as I dialled Joan’s number. “Hello, Joan… where are you? That fool cheated… Rex cheated on me.” I sobbed, choking on my words. “What?!” Joan’s voice was sharp, filled with panic. “Where are you? Just meet me at the club. I am leaving for the club already. Everything is going to be fine, okay” she assured me. “Okay,” I whispered, not sure how anything could be fixed. I arrived at the club and noticed Joan outside waiting for me. She had a calm smile on and her arm was wide open, ready to receive me. I collapsed into her arms, finally letting out the tears. “That bastard! He has no idea of what he has missed,” Joan muttered as we went inside, ordering drinks immediately. “I can’t believe he did this to you. After everything?” I shook my head, still trying to wrap my mind around it. “He said she’s his mate, Joan. She’s pregnant.” Joan’s eyes widened, completely surprised.“Oh my God… Elena, I’m so sorry.” We remained in silence for a while, drinking more than we should have. The pain, betrayal, and anger got my mind swirling, not just the alcohol. “I don’t think there is any point keeping it, it has done me much more harm than God. I am breaking my virginity!” I blurted. “What?” Joan almost choked on her drink. “You think that bastard left you because you won’t allow him to sleep with you? Come on Elena, you are just upset.” “I am serious, Joan. I don’t have a mate yet and my chances of having one are quite low because I don’t even have a wolf yet, what’s the point of waiting?” I exclaimed, feeling some courage inside of me. “So what happens after having s*x? Do you have someone in mind?” She asked, turning around, like she was searching for someone. “Nothing, I will just find someone around. It’s a mask party after all and no one knows who I am.” I replied almost immediately. But before she could argue with me again, her phone rang. She frowned as she checked the screen. “It’s urgent Elena, I will be right back.” “You can hang around with that guy over there, but don’t do anything crazy.” She gestured towards a corner. I nodded and stood up immediately to approach the guy, I needed someone to keep me company and it seemed he was alone. But then I needed to use the bathroom. Just as I stood up, I stumbled and immediately I felt a strong grip on my arm. As soon as I held him back, I felt a spark of electricity run through my veins. I looked up and met with his brown, intense eyes although it was behind a mask. “Mate,” he breathed, his voice deep and certain. I stared at him, confused. “No. You’ve got the wrong girl. I don’t have a wolf.” How stupid of him to think that I am his mate when I don’t see myself having any for now, or maybe he was just trying to get to me. He frowned, not letting go of me. “I know you feel it too, don’t you?” I did, but I couldn’t just say anything. Not when I have had enough alcohol to drink, maybe all of these were just an illusion. “I am not your mate but I think… I want to be with you.” “Why don’t you get it? And why are you so drunk?” The man frowned at me. “I don’t care about all of this mate s**t!” I interrupted, feeling bold from the alcohol and the pain in my chest. “Let’s just… be together. Right now.” “How about I get to know your name first?” He whispered into my ears, already hugging me tightly to himself. “It doesn’t matter, have fun with me tonight!” I snapped and followed him as he led me on.
