Snapping back to reality, Julian ignored the security personnel holding him in the room and stormed straight out. He marched up to Vivian and slapped her hard across the face. Seeing the look on Julian's face, Vivian knew at once that he had learned the truth. She didn't get angry. Instead, she threw her head back and laughed. "You fool, you were always so utterly useless." Then she spat directly in Julian's face. The woman who had played the delicate, pitiful damsel day after day shed every last shred of her disguise in that single moment. Julian was consumed with regret. But it was far too late.
