22. A servants room

Her new room is small. It’s tucked under the stairs of the tower and the only window has a view of a wall. She didn’t have as many dresses as back home, but even the few she does have hardly fit in the tiny wardrobe. The bed is so narrow she’s afraid she will fall off of it if she moves.  She is so tired she can hardly keep her eyes open, but she can’t sleep. She keeps waking up and listening to any sounds from outside or upstairs. Why? She wonders. Even if he would move about, she can’t possibly hear him. He is three stories above her. In a stone tower. And he made it perfectly clear that she is to sleep here alone. He will need her in the morning and he wants her close. Why would he need her? Does he expect her to dress him? To bade him or something? She was raised a princess, she knows
