CHAPTER 14::Taming The Beast

Berton's POV As soon as she was done signing, I decided to go through the contract to make sure that she was really done signing and there was nothing else she needed to sign. I noticed that she was looking up at me, probably because I'd paused while I was just about to tell her why she was signing the contract. I didn't blame her, it must be very strange for her and that was why she was very worried. "Just give me a moment so I can look at this." I said and she nodded. I continued to review the contract. Everything needed to be perfect because this contract wasn't Judy a formal agreement. It was a lifeline. After double-checking every clause and term, making sure that she'd signed every required space, I smiled and looked at her before gently putting the documents aside so I could tell her the reason. I could see that she was brimming with anticipation and curiosity. I took a deep breath and went on. "Emily, I need to explain why this contract is so important." I began. "You see, I've always struggled to control my wolf. It's something that I've had to deal with my entire life, or rather, since I found my wolf. I've been troubled ever since because my wolf is always so restless and wouldn't let me rest." Her eyes widened slightly, but she remained silent and allowed me to continue. It was so thoughtful of her. "My wolf is... different." I continued to explain. "It's stronger, wilder, and harder to control. There are times when I fear it might harm someone innocent and because of this, I often have to hide to ensure that nobody gets hurt. And sometimes it just gets so restless that I never feel comfortable at all. This is what I've been dealing with for many years now and it's not been easy at all. It has been nothing short of a nightmare." I paused again, gauging her reaction. She looked concerned but attentive. I could see that she wasn't so surprised or shocked by where this was heading, which was a good sign. I didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable about what she had just signed. "This issue is why the elders in the Pack opposed my succession as Alpha." I admitted. "They are worried that I won't be able to keep the Pack safe. They fear what might happen if I lose control. So you see, they are afraid that I might end the lives that I am supposed to protect. She nodded, with a thoughtful look on her face. "I understand, Berton. But what does this have to do with me?" She was still confused about where this was headed and unclear about what she was really meant to do. I took another deep breath, feeling the weight of my next words because I had no idea how this was going to affect her. "When I met you, something changed. Your presence and your aura made my wolf so calm and soothed my wolf. For the first time in a long while, I felt a sense of control over myself. That's why I need your help. I believe you might be able to help me manage, maybe even cure this condition. That's why I've always wanted to be around you since I first met you. The incident at the restroom wasn't because I was a perv or something, and I want to use this moment to apologize for what happened. It's about the future of the Pack. If I can control my wolf, I can be the Alpha that the Pack needs. But I need you to keep this matter confidential. Please. It's crucial that no one else knows about this. Is there anything about this that you don't understand or you don't want?" I asked and she shook her head before an understanding smile crossed her face. "I understand, Berton. I'll help you, and I promise to keep this confidential as you asked me to. And thank you for giving me a chance. I didn't expect you would listen to me when I called you again." She said, smiling. I was glad that she liked the terms and conditions of our agreement and it wasn't too shocking for her. I knew she was going to do a very good job calming my wolf down and stopped me from always being so irritated and angry. There was nothing better than this. "Thank you too, Emily, I lost all hope when you told me that you wouldn't be doing it. But telling me that you had changed your mind made me so happy. I don't know what I would have done if you said no. I guess we are meant to be together." I chuckled, and she laughed, which was a good sign. The fact that she needed my help as soon as she was done rejecting my proposal meant that there was another force behind this, one that wanted us to be together and take care of my problem as soon as possible. I was going to do my best in making sure that I took care of her as well. That was the moment a knock sounded on the door. My Beta walked in, and a look of concern crossed his face when he saw her sitting in my office. He quickly swerved his head towards me and informed me why he had come. "Your meeting is in ten minutes." I glanced at the clock, realizing how much time had passed. It was already twenty minutes but it felt like thirty seconds. The effect she had on me was nothing short of amazing. "Please move the meeting thirty minutes later. I need to finish a discussion." I instructed. "Understood. I'll take care of it." He gave her another unsure look, probably wondering why she was so important that I had had to shift a very important meeting because of her. He walked out of the door and I couldn't help but smile at his reaction. I turned towards Emily after that. Our meeting was just about to end but something else had to be addressed.
