Chapter 4

I opened my eyes, and I saw the ceiling of my office.

“Thank goodness you’re alive”

I immediately looked at the owner of the teasing voice. I found Atticus sitting on my table, in front of my desktop.

“I just have the weirdest dream. I was kissing the CEO, f*****g disgusting!” I said as I stood up

“Dream?” He asked as he turned and faced me.

“What happened to me and how did I came here?” I asked, not paying attention to his question.

I don’t want to tell him the entire dream. It’s so vivid that it almost felt like it’s real. The thought of it, gives me shivers down to me spine.

“You collapsed in front of the building, so I brought you here. Anyway how are you? ” he said.

Now that he asked, I just realized that my fever’s gone. I feel a lot better now. Awhile ago I was almost dying, now my body’s feeling good. It’s like something was being lifted.

“I’m actually a lot better now. Strange, before I came here, I’m sure that I was about to die, how come that I’m feeling good right now?” I said as I looked at him. “Maybe my medicine started to take action.” I added

“Maybe it is something like that” he said smiling at me awkwardly.

“Anyway, do I still have the job?” I asked him

“You’re lucky that he needs you, I’m sure he’ll fire you instantly if he didn’t.” he replied

“Well, good thing I still have my luck” I replied.

“Why do you need this job for?” he asked

“I have a huge debt to pay, so am gonna need a lot of money to survive” I replied without looking at him.

“Is that all your reason to stay?” he asked

“What do you mean? Of course it’s all my reason.” I replied.

“You didn’t feel anything?” he asked again

“Like what?” I asked him as I turned to him, but was immediately swallowed by an intimidating feeling upon seeing the CEO, standing behind Atticus.

“Yeah like what Atticus?” he asked, which made Atticus flinched.

He immediately looked at me, which made felt like my strength was being pulled away from me. There’s something by the way he looked at me, that would made me feel like my entire body is burning. And here goes that sweet intoxicating smell, it’s choking me.

“You shouldn’t be here” Atticus seriously said, which shocked me.

“Are you going to tell me what I need to do now?” He replied.

“f**k! Think clearly Zach! You’re letting it drive you” Atticus replied as he slowly shoved the CEO towards the door.

The CEO just stared at Atticus before he shoved him. Atticus immediately looked at me, then mouthed, ‘sorry' before he left. Of course! He’s the CEO, there’s no way that he will listen to his lawyer.

“Are you trying to seduce my lawyer?” I was dumbfounded by his question.

Why does he keep asking me weird things about Atticus? Are they dating? Well, it’s the only reasonable thing that I could think of, to explain why he’s so stingy with his lawyer.

Somehow, the thought covers me with different kind of anxiety, for a split second. I just shrugged the thought away. Why would I be thinking about that anyway?

“N-No Sir.” I replied. I flinched when he hit the table with his two hands.

“Then why are you always with him?!” I was shocked when he shouted. What’s wrong with him?

“It’s you who always made him come. You use him to deliver your message to me.” I explained.

I can see his eyes changed for moment, from brown to gray, or I’m just seeing things?

He turned his back on me, so I can’t clearly see what his reaction was. I just talk back at him, and it’s the longest sentences that I’ve gave him, he must be pissed.

He’s murmuring things that I can’t hear. Then just like than he left the room. I honestly don’t know what’s on his mind.

“Are they really dating?”

I was amazed by the question that I just asked myself. Why would I care? It’s their business.

I immediately went back to my computer to start my work again, when the door flew open.

“You’ve just recovered, I think you need to rest.” He said

“Atticus, let me ask you something. Answer me honestly, I promise not to judge you” I immediately said. I just can’t let go of the thought.

“Yeah, sure what is it?” he asked

“Are you dating the CEO?” I asked him.

He looked at me for a while before he laughed hysterically. I looked at him like he was some sort of an i***t. Did I said something funny?

“Why would you asked me that? What were you thinking?” he asked in between of his laughs.

“W-Well, he’s so stingy when it’s about you” I replied

“Well, are you sure he’s stingy on me, or on you?” he answered, which made my eyebrows frowned. On me?

“W-What do you mean?” I asked him.

“I don’t know.” He shrugged “But I’m certain that he’s not into me” he added.

I’m both confused and relieved by what he said.

“Well, you should go. You need to relax after what have happened. Stay away from the CEO for now, he’s a bit distorted right now” he said as he slowly shoved me out of my office.

I don’t have any choice but to leave. I am now starting to question whether I’m working here or not. But since I’m off today, I dialed Ailee’s number. It’s been a while since I’ve made some time for her.

We meet at her favorite restaurant. Before I was too hesitant to bring her here because I don’t have enough money for this, but since I am now making good money, I think I can afford to bring her here once in a while.

I immediately saw her when she stepped out of her car. She’s a free lance model, and her family owns a small resort. I admit, I feel so lucky that I have her as my girlfriend.

“Flynn!” she cheerfully said as she ran towards me and gave me a tight hug. “I missed you so much” she said. I chuckled upon seeing her reaction.

“I’m so sorry I can’t make time for you” I said.

She let go of me, and then smiled at me adorably. She’s gotten a lot prettier.

“Don’t say that, you know that I understand you right? You don’t need to be pressured because of me. I love you always, okay?” she replied which melted my heart.

I placed a kiss on her forehead before I led her inside the restaurant, and assisted her on her chair.

“Are you sure that we can eat here?” she worriedly asked. She knows what’s happening between me and my family, so she’s doing her best to understand me.

“Don’t worry, I can cover this” I held her hand as I smiled at her. She just nodded as an answer.

We just ate and talked, as we catched on each others lives, but something’s bothering me. I felt like someone’s watching me the whole time. From the restaurant until I reached my place.

I just texted Ailee before I slumped myself on my bed.

Something’s weird, while I was with Ailee, I am smelling the CEO’s sweet scent… Maybe it’s because I’m too intimidated when the CEO’s around that’s why I can still smell him even when I’m outside the building.

Yeah, maybe that’s the reason.
