Chapter 3: The Third Wrong Number

216 Words
It was 5:00 PM on the dot. David's office was empty. Board meeting done. Reports done. But his eyes were on his phone. It rang. "Hi CEO," Ada answered. She was smiling. He could hear it. "You're not late." David leaned back and smiled for the first time all day. "And you answered. So maybe I'm not bad at dialing after all." Ada laughed. "Or maybe you're just very persistent." "Guilty," David said. "So... how was your day?" "Long," Ada admitted. "Rude customers. Cold coffee. Same thing." David frowned. "You deserve better coffee." "And you deserve a break, CEO," Ada teased. "You sound tired." There was a pause. Just breathing. Two strangers. One wrong number. "Can I call you again tomorrow?" David asked quietly. Ada went silent. Then whispered: "That would make it a fourth wrong number..." "Is that a yes?" He checked the time. 5:01 PM. Tomorrow couldn't come fast enough. --- Author's Note: Thank you for reading! Who do you think will confess first - David or Ada? Leave a comment ❤️ "5 PM," Ada said.
