Chapter 12: The Escape and the Unseen Enemy

1207 Words
The Black Suns soldiers advanced like a wall of steel, surrounding Lin Ye and his team. Their weapons were drawn, and their eyes were locked onto their targets. Yet, despite the overwhelming odds, Lin Ye remained calm, his grip on his machete unshakable. Every muscle in his body was coiled, ready to spring into action. “We need to move!” Ye Qing Cheng shouted, her sniper rifle raised as she scanned the soldiers. “There’s no time to waste.” Lin Ye’s eyes darted around the room, calculating the best escape route. Xiao Yun’s soldiers were closing in on them from all sides, but there was one exit—an air vent above them, large enough for all of them to fit through. It was their only chance. “Qin Xue Ning!” Lin Ye called, his voice firm. “Cover us! We’re heading for the vent.” The military officer nodded without hesitation. Her eyes were sharp, calculating, as she raised her g*n and began firing. Her shots were precise, taking down one soldier after another with ruthless efficiency. But Lin Ye knew they couldn’t hold out forever. The Black Suns were relentless, and their numbers were too great. “Let’s go!” Lin Ye shouted, leaping toward the vent. He could hear Ye Qing Cheng and Bai Li close behind him. The only one who hesitated for a moment was Qin Xue Ning, but she followed suit, covering their backs with well-aimed shots. Lin Ye jumped up, grabbing the edge of the vent and pulling himself inside. Ye Qing Cheng followed next, with Bai Li quickly joining them. Qin Xue Ning was the last to enter, and just as she was about to climb in, a loud explosion rocked the room, shaking the entire complex. The force of it knocked her off balance, and she tumbled toward the ground, her g*n skidding out of her reach. “Qin Xue Ning!” Lin Ye shouted, his heart skipping a beat. He didn’t wait for an answer. He reached down and grabbed her arm, pulling her toward the vent. The room was in chaos now, the Black Suns soldiers shouting as they scrambled to regain control. Qin Xue Ning was breathing hard, her face pale from the shock, but she managed to nod. “I’m fine. Let’s go.” With a final push, she scrambled into the vent, and the group hurried deeper into the tunnel system, their footsteps echoing through the dark passages. “We can’t stay here for long,” Lin Ye said, his voice low. “Xiao Yun is after us. He won’t stop until we’re dead.” Ye Qing Cheng nodded. “We need to find a safe place to regroup, somewhere they can’t track us.” The group continued moving through the labyrinthine corridors, their path taking them deeper into the underground complex. Lin Ye’s mind raced, trying to piece together the new information he’d just learned about Xiao Yun and the Black Suns. The project, the virus, his own powers—everything was part of a much larger plan, and Lin Ye couldn’t afford to waste any more time. He had to find a way to stop Xiao Yun, and he had to do it fast. “Over there!” Bai Li suddenly exclaimed, pointing down a dark hallway. Lin Ye’s eyes followed her finger to a door at the end of the passage. It was a security door, heavily reinforced with steel and technology. If they could get inside, they might find a safe room to regroup, or at least a way to contact the outside world. “Stay alert,” Lin Ye warned, his voice steady. “We don’t know what’s behind that door.” The group made their way toward the door, moving quickly but cautiously. As they approached, Lin Ye noticed that the door’s security system was already active, the lights blinking as if it were on standby. “Qin Xue Ning, can you hack into it?” Lin Ye asked. Qin Xue Ning wasted no time, stepping forward and pulling a small device from her belt. She connected it to the door’s security panel, her fingers flying over the device’s keypad as she worked to bypass the system. “Give me a moment,” she said, her voice calm despite the danger surrounding them. Lin Ye nodded, keeping his eyes on the shadows. The hum of the Black Suns soldiers grew louder in the distance. They wouldn’t have much time before they were found. His mind raced—if they couldn’t get through that door in time, they’d be trapped. Just then, the door’s heavy locking mechanism clicked, and the door slowly began to slide open. “It’s done!” Qin Xue Ning said, stepping back as the door opened wide. Without hesitation, Lin Ye motioned for the team to move inside. They quickly filed through the door, finding themselves in a large, high-tech command center. It was filled with rows of computer terminals and large projection screens displaying maps, data, and news feeds from around the world. “This is… an operation center,” Lin Ye muttered, his eyes scanning the room. “Xiao Yun’s control room.” Ye Qing Cheng immediately began scanning the data on one of the screens. “There’s information here—about the virus, the Black Suns, and the project. We can find out more, maybe even stop this before it’s too late.” Lin Ye’s eyes narrowed. “We don’t have time to dig through all this data. We need a plan, and we need it now.” Bai Li moved toward the back of the room, where a large map of the city was projected on a wall. “We can use this,” she said, her finger tracing a route through the city. “There’s a safe house here, a place that’s off the grid. If we can make it there, we might be able to regroup and plan our next move.” Lin Ye nodded. “Then that’s where we’re headed. But we need to move fast.” Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed through the hallway outside the command center. The Black Suns soldiers were closing in on their location. “We’re not alone,” Ye Qing Cheng said, her tone grim. Lin Ye didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Qin Xue Ning’s arm and pulled her toward the exit. “Move out! Now!” The group ran down the hallway, heading for the exit of the complex. Their hearts pounded in their chests as they darted through the underground maze. They had barely made it out of Xiao Yun’s trap, but the fight was far from over. As they reached the surface, Lin Ye paused for a moment, looking up at the dark sky. The world had changed, and so had he. The power within him, the evolution—it was both a gift and a curse. He couldn’t ignore the truth any longer: he was part of something much larger than himself, something that could either save humanity or destroy it. But Lin Ye wasn’t ready to give up just yet. “We fight,” he muttered to himself, “until the end.”
