Valeriane Every eye was on us the moment we walked in. The hall beautifully decorated in Genevieve’s favorite color. Lucian’s eyes were searching for her, instead of being on mine, the moment we walked into the wedding hall, my stepmother stared at me. “What is he doing here?” She asked, pulling me away from him, Lucian didn’t even seem to care when father made his presence known. “He is her ex, are you trying to ruin her wedding?.” My stepmom yelled. “No I swear-“ “Do not talk back to your mother.“ Father yelled. “I should have known you will try a stunt to ruin her day, you are jealous, it’s bad enough you bring a bad name to our family, and now this.” My lips pressed against each other. His words felt like a knife twisting inside of me. I tried to focus on something, anything to drown them out. My father and stepmother Morgan made my life horrible, it didn’t help when my father left my mom when I was just ten, took me to stay with a woman that could never love me, it got worse when mom died at twelve, and ever since then everything changed, it got more worse when my wolf refused to activate at eighteen years old. “Don’t cry.” My stepmom yelled. “You do not want people to see that and you look so lean, you could not find a dress that will make you look better, you want people to mock us, is that so? You want them to think we are maltreating you, it’s not my fault my daughter has a better life than you.” I bit my lip, trying to breathe through the pain. “She took after her pathetic mother, you should not expect any less from her.” Father smiled, and my eyes closed for a moment, their voices throbbed through my head, my eyes blurred as a tear slipped. I deserve it, I should have never brought him here, Genevieve deserves to be happy. “You better handle that man you brought here, I don’t want a scene, and stop crying, wipe those tears and place the happiest smile on your face, your sister is making us proud, she is getting married.” My eyes darted to theirs, they both glared at me, before whispering a curse, for a moment I thought this day couldn’t get worse, until I felt Lucian pull me into his arms. I noticed everyone’s attention shifted to Genevieve in her beautiful dress; she flashed a smile, she always loved when all eyes are on her. Genevieve headed toward us with her soon to be husband Soren. She had the biggest smile on her face and Soren, the powerful wolf stood beside her, with a smile on his face. “Val.” She smiled. “It’s great to see you here.” Her words screamed kindness yet her eyes stared at me like I was dirt. “Nice to see you too, Val did you tell her yet?.” Lucian asked. “She is my girlfriend.” Girlfriend? The words felt perfect against his lips. He didn’t even look at me before saying it. She looked between me and Lucian before a scoff escaped her lips “Really, who would have thought you will go below your standard just to prove a point, look at your date, her dress is unattractive and plain, she looks like she is wearing a rag.” She smiled. “You are childish Lucian, if you wanted to make me jealous, you should have found someone popular instead of someone wanted by no one.” She spat. Her gaze filled with mockery. Shame tightened in my gut. “She is not even a wolf, Lucian and you think I will be jealous of her, like dad would always say. She is pathetic like her mom, I wish I met the woman you are like, what a shame?” I bit my lip, struggling to breathe. Her eyes snapped away from mine, her hands softly touching Soren’s face and from the corner of her eyes she stared at Lucian, sealing her lips with Soren, who instantly melted into the kiss. I shifted uncomfortably in Lucian’s hold, Genevieve on the other hand seems comfortable brushing her tongue against her groom’s lips and a moan falls out of her lips. In an instant, my eyes pulled my gaze away, I could barely apprehend what was happening until I felt Lucian’s lips on mine. I didn’t move. I froze. The moment I have dreamed about, yet it was nothing like I imagined, I imagined my first kiss with him to be slow, calm, while we stare into each other’s eyes, while we pull away from time to time to smile, instead his hand grabbed a handful of my hair. I winced in pain, without any time to recover, his lips latched harshly onto mine, his other hand squeezed my ass. It didn’t feel like love. “Lu-“ when he bit my lip and took control of my lips again, I fought back the tears, he told me we could try after she gets married but it’s all a lie, he didn’t come here to say goodbye, he came here to try and get her back. I am just a pawn in his game. He is not kissing me because he wanted me, because he wants to make her jealous, I felt a wave of annoyance wash over me, my feet felt weak, as I felt my hand quivering in anger, I pushed Lucian away from me. I blinked a few times, as hot tears fell against my cheek, he humiliated me. “What are you doing?” Lucian gritted through his teeth, I didn’t speak, I shook my head at the thought of what just happened? He used me again, caused me pain without caring. His words found its way through my heart again. I took a step away and I made my way toward the changing room. “Val wait.” Lucian called. I walked as fast as I could until I found myself standing by the door and my tears stained my skin, I felt a sharp pain radiating through my heart. “What the f**k is wrong with you?.” I heard a voice from behind. “Why are you crying? Do you always have to be pathetic? You embarrassed me there Val, to make matters worse, your average looks made me lose.” He yelled. He took a step further toward me. “You are pathetic.” He yelled, my fist clenched, I felt bubbles of anger forming by the side of my mouth. “Say something.” His words sinking into my heart. How could he do this to me. I clenched my palm in anger, His lips parted to utter another word, and my hand found its place on his thick cheek, I felt his skin stinging against my hand. I took a step away from him and into the dressing room, my body felt hot, I just wanted this day to be over with, I need to get changed to my bridesmaid clothes. I took off my clothes, my eyes glancing at my reflection in the mirror, my attention pulled away as I heard a crack. The door popped and a figure walked in. The air got heavier, he walked in like he owned the room
