My heart stopped; they were denying me access to the prison unit? I let out a breath, unsure what to say or do, but thankfully, Ren was the one doing the talking, so I didn’t have to say much of anything. At least not yet.
“I wasn’t asking, Ronnie,” Ren said, rolling his eyes. “Move out of our way so we can tend to the prisoners.”
“I’d rather just let them die,” the guard, Ronnie, muttered, shaking his head. “It’s either them or us. We let her in there, and the prince will kill us all.”
