The next morning

815 Words
Lily woke up to her alarm set at 4:30 am. For her, it was normal; she always had to wake up first in the family to do all her tasks. She got up and took her clothes for school. Lily doesn't think much of what clothes to wear to school. School doesn't have a uniform, so she usually wears hoodies and black jeans. Today she has chosen a black hoodie and black jeans. She walked straight to the bathroom, took her clothes off, and got in the shower. The water was warm; it felt amazing on her skin. For a moment, she stood there letting the water wash all her sorrows away. After some time, she was out of the shower. She dried herself with her towel and got dressed. Then she dried her hair and put her hair in a messy bun. Lily got out of the bathroom, and it was already 5:00 am. She walked to the kitchen and started preparing breakfast. In one pot, she put oats, and on the pan, she put bacon. In the toaster, she put two slices of bread. In a bowl, she scrambled two eggs with salt and pepper and put them in a smaller pan. When everything finished cooking, she made for Dad an egg and bacon sandwich. For her sister and mother, oats with a little bit of jam and fresh berries. Then, she plated the dishes nicely on the kitchen table. Then she boiled a kettle. While waiting for the water to boil, she got four mugs and put coffee in them. She very well knew how many teaspoons everyone liked. In the past, when Lily forgot how much coffee to put in mom's cup, she put a little too much. After her mom tasted the coffee, she got up and boiled the kettle again, and after it was done boiling, she just spilled all the boiling water on her. The hot water touched her skin, burning, making her scream from pain. Mom didn't care that Lily was burned badly; she just screamed at her, throwing the kitchen towel. "Is it so hard to remember! It is just a simple task to make a coffee! How dare you not remember how to make my coffee! You! Useless thing, clean all the mess up and make the new coffee with two teaspoons. I hope you have learned your lesson." After she was done speaking with her, she went to the living room. Although the wound healed fast, way faster than anyone would expect, from that day, she never forgot how to make coffee. It wasn't the only time that family hurt her. If they didn't like the food, they just threw the dishes at her. Lily poured the boiling water into the mugs and brought three of them to the kitchen table. She left hers on the kitchen counter. It was already 5:50 am; she did notice how time flew by. She started to clean the kitchen. After a few minutes, her father came and sat in his place. "You still didn’t finish cleaning?" he said. "I'm sorry..." she spoke weakly, sounding more like a whisper. "Next time, be faster, or you will regret it." "Yes, sir." She was taught to call her father sir. They said it was to show respect to him. But her little sister could always call him father, dad, daddy, any way she liked. After finishing cleaning, she took her coffee mug and tried to take a sip. But her mom came into the room and pulled the mug away from her. "What do you think you are doing?" Mother asked. "I was about to drink my coffee." "Don’t you remember the way you spoke to me yesterday? You don't deserve to get food." "But coffee isn't food," Lily tried to argue with her. "You don't deserve coffee, either." Mother walked to the sink with the mug in her hand and poured all the coffee into the sink. "After you apologize to me, maybe I will let you drink coffee or eat." She said with an evil smile. "I didn’t do anything wrong." "Ungrateful little shit." Mother slapped her hard, splitting her lower lip and leaving a red mark on her cheek. "Go to your room and get ready for school. You can't be late." Lily went to her room with teary eyes. She didn't want to shed a tear in front of them. She put her needed textbooks and notebooks in her bag and then sat on her bed. She still could taste the blood in her mouth. When she got up from the bed, she went straight to look in the mirror. Lily saw that her lip was healing fast and that the mark on her cheek wasn't that red anymore. She couldn't understand how this could be possible, but she was glad that it was already healing.
