Whilst those on the inside wished to surrender, the captain, a man by the name of Converse, would have none of it. He threatened to execute anyone caught leaving the fort. After harried gunshots and a fair share of obscenities, the French and Indian attackers disappeared into the night, slaughtering whatever men and cattle they encountered.
