The aftermath

Selena's POV

I headed back home and changed out of the dress and climbed into bed after opening the window. I can hear the rushing of the river and the crickets chirping. I pray to the moon goddess and hope that I will be so lucky to get a second chance mate. I let the tears slip out and cry for my loss and for Seraphina's loss. Seraphina is whimpering in my head at the loss of her mate. I try to tell her that things will get better and that we should have hope. I'm just not sure if I even believe that just yet. I close my eyes and go to sleep.

Sleep eventually takes over and it's anything but peaceful.

The dream I have is more of a nightmare really. I dream of Kyle and Kasey and the rejection and how he is going to mark her and make her the Luna of the West River Pack. All night it is the same nightmare over and over, like my mind is torturing me.

I woke up the next morning by the bright sunrays leaking through my shades. I decided to get up and get dressed, hoping that I can start to move on. I got dressed and went downstairs. As soon as I get to the kitchen, mom comes up to me and gives me a big hug asking what happened.

I sighed, "Kyle rejected me last night." I said to her. " What? When? " She said, shocked. She's got every reason to be shocked because it's not common to be rejected, at least in this pack. Well, it's more unheard of in most packs as all believe that Fated Mates are perfect for each other and compliment one another. I sigh and tell her everything. She stays quiet listening to what i am saying.

When I am finished, she stays quiet for a few minutes before saying," He's just an i***t, honey. Maybe the moon goddess will be gracious to giving you a second chance, mate. One that will be worthy of your love." I nod my head, hoping in agreement.

I tell her I am going to go for a run to clear my head. I head out to the backyard and shift and take off running.

Unknown POV:

We get to the gates of the West River pack and tell the border patrol who we are and who we are meeting. Once through, we headed to the packhouse. We are greeted by the beta and his mate and not he Alpha which is weird

He greets us with a handshake. " Hi, Your Majesty, my name is Cameron, and I am the Beta of this pack and this is Kylie, my mate. We apologize about Alpha Drake not being here. He is at an important meeting and will meet you this afternoon in his office for a meeting before dinner.

I replied" Sure, that is fine. We would like to get settled and maybe go for a run and stretch as it's been a long drive."

He nods his head in response and calls over some omegas to show us where we are staying. They bow after they show us to our doors, which are all on the 2nd floor of this pack house. I put my stuff down and headed to the back of the pack house linking my beta I am going for a run. I will be back link me if you need me. He links back sure as I shift and take off to the woods to get a good run of the land.
