Cassie shut the door after John left and leaned against it, almost tempted to let the tears that had been forming fall. Thank God John had come over. She’d assumed Estelle would have stayed with Tim. She’d have to clarify that Estelle could not leave until Cassie opened the door and waved her off. She’d thought Tim would be worried about her but not alone. Thank goodness John didn’t carry his resentment of her over onto her son. Her relief at seeing John when she’d walked through the door was out of proportion with their relationship. Not just gratitude he was there but actual relief to see him. She’d wanted to lean on him and have him reassure her that it would all turn out okay. Which was asinine of her. He detested her presence in his life and only tolerated her out of concern for her
