Liam’s pov
As I lay in bed, my thoughts drifted back to Maxine. Her beauty was captivating, unlike anything I had ever seen before. The way her eyes sparkled, even through her fear, and the way her body moved. I could go on and on, thinking about her. She had a hold on me that I couldn't quite nod off.
I was lost in these thoughts when my phone rang, snapping me back to reality. It was Kris. We were supposed to discuss the elders' visit. I had almost forgotten in my distraction.
"Hello?" I answered, trying to clear my mind.
"Alpha, Liam, where are you?" Kris's voice was impatient. "I'm already in the garden waiting for you."
"I'm on my way," I replied, hanging up quickly. I couldn't let my distractions get in the way of my responsibilities. Any slight mistake might put my pack at risk.
I stood up, still thinking about the meeting with the elders. It wasn't that I didn't know what to say or do, but I was genuinely concerned about my pack. Exposing them to constant attack and fear wasn’t part of my plan. I could handle an attack on my own, and I trained my pack to be fierce warriors. It would take a dozen packs to defeat us all at once. But my pack didn't deserve such restlessness because of my personal life.
I hurriedly got dressed, my mind shifting back to the thought of Maxine. But I quickly waved it off, shifting my thoughts back to the pressing issues at hand. Maxine would have to wait. My pack's safety was my priority. I left my quarters and headed towards the garden, where Kris and I had planned to meet. I bet he must have been waiting for too long.
As I walked through the corridors, I thought about what the elders had said. Their threat to declare my pack rogue if I didn't accept Maxine as my Luna was serious. I couldn't let that happen. The pack needed stability, not chaos. But then, Maxine?! She's too weak to stand by me.
When I reached the garden, Kris was already there, pacing back and forth. His expression was tense.
"Alpha," he greeted me, stopping in his tracks. “You sent for me, hope all is well? Do we have any security issues?”
I stared at him for a moment, contemplating how to answer his questions. “The elders of course,” I finally let out.
Kris stroked his head and gazed at me, his expression was reflecting desperation. He knew the matter was serious. And what I'm capable of doing. But he didn't know that this time, I chose my pack over my personal life.
"We need to figure out how to handle this elderly situation. There’s no way they can declare our pack a rogue pack. Do they know the consequences? There would be a lot of bloodshed." Kris finally stated, his tone urgent and desperate.
"I know," I said, joining him. "They’re trying to push me into a corner. That was a bait."
Kris nodded, his eyes narrowing. "They know you're powerful, Alpha. They're testing you. But this isn't just about you. It's about all of us, the pack."
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "I don’t want the pack to suffer because of my choices. We need a plan."
"We do," Kris agreed. "We need to show them that we won't be bullied, but we also need to protect our pack."
I thought about it for a moment. Then, Kris continued, "What if we strengthen our pack? Give them something to be scared of. Shake all the supernatural kingdoms. Let them know that you could do what you wanted and nobody would have a say.”
With my index finger on my chin, I began to ponder on what Kris was saying. I couldn't respond to his suggestions because I was still trying to comprehend.
Kris glanced at me thoughtfully. Then he continued. "Alpha, don't you think it’s a good idea? If we show we have strength that overpowers all powers in the supernatural world, the elders might back off. But we need to act quickly."
"But what do we do?" I said, determination hardening in my voice. "How do we plan and execute such an act? This plan would work but how do we start? What do we do? Remember we won't be dealing with werewolf packs alone but all supernatural and that won't be easy. If we must do this, it must be a very good one. A plan that would make it clear that any attack on us will be met with fierce resistance."
Kris nodded, wearing a serious expression. “We’ll think of a plan. I'll contact some people right away."
I took a deep breath, looking around the garden. The beauty and peace of the place contrasted sharply with the turmoil inside me. I had to protect my pack, no matter the cost.
As Kris was about to make the call, I stopped him. "Wait," I said. "There’s no use disturbing people over this. They should be with their families or preparing for any real threat. It's selfish to involve them in my issues."
Kris looked at me with a mix of surprise and admiration but nodded. "Are you sure, Alpha? You know that I’ll always have your back, no matter what."
I sighed. "Yes. I'd rather choose the peace of our people over my problems. But anyway, thank you, I appreciate it."
Kris smiled, shaking my hand. "That's a wise decision, Alpha. Thank you."
"Let's focus on keeping our pack strong and united," I replied. "We'll handle this without involving others."
"Agreed," Kris said.
As for Maxine, I knew I had to present her as my Luna, but I would deal with her later. She was a complication, but she was also a part of my life now. Somehow, I would have to find a way to balance everything.
“Gush! I hate this.”
