Chapter 36: Wonderland

Highway 20
Erie, Pennsylvania
There wasn’t any action on Highway 20 for the last half hour, even though Damian expected there would be. He was quiet in the passenger-seat, disappointed, and concentrated on the headlights which led the Buick through the night. The splay of golden-white light arched over the highway, but showcased nothing important. He asked Ridge, “Are your high beams on?”
“The whole way. I haven’t turned them off.”
“There’s nothing out here.” Damian looked down at the empty sketchpad on his lap. His right hand held a pencil with a very firm grip. “I’m out of sketches,” he admitted. “Why the f**k does this happen when I need this gift?”
“Give it time, superhero. Something will come to you. You have to be a little more patient
