Lisa's POV Lunch stretched longer than any of us expected. None of us seemed eager for the afternoon to end. My mother kept finding new stories to tell, and Charles listened with genuine interest, laughing at the right moments and asking questions that made her feel heard. Watching the two of them together warmed my heart in a way I wasn't expecting For the first time since our wedding, I wasn't worried about whether they would get along because they already are. Eventually, my mother stood up and disappeared into her room. She returned a moment later carrying her handbag. "I almost forgot," she said with a smile. "I have something for both of you." She pulled out two neatly wrapped containers. "I made these this morning. I was hoping you'd come," she said. I couldn't help smiling.
