LISA'S POV After breakfast, Charles left for his study to attend to some work. "I'll probably be tied up for the next few hours," he had told me before leaving the dining room. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask." I smiled and assured him I would. For the first time since moving into the mansion, I had nowhere to be. There were no errands to run, no reception desk waiting for me, no customers checking into a hotel. It was a strange feeling. I wandered back to my room for a while, but before long, curiosity got the better of me. There was still so much of this place I hadn't seen. "I'll just take a little walk," I said to myself. "It can't be that difficult to find my way back." Those words would come back to embarrass me later. I stepped into the hallway and looked around
