37 Daniel couldn’t believe his ears. He motioned to Alec, who sat across the room at the wide oak table with a pile of books in front of him. “Was there an old guy with him?” he asked. “He would appear to be on the wrong end of his fifties, paunchy and bald?” It had been weeks since the summit on the hill—at least, that was what he called it. They were in Minneapolis at one of the vampire’s many apartments. He and Serin had met up with the Fire Elemental and her mate after discovering their parallel investigations had brought them within a couple of hundred miles of each other.
