Chapter 1

"Run baby!"

"Run!"

There was blood everywhere, the spark once seen in my mother's eyes was nowhere to be seen. Blood dripped down from her forehead. We ran into the thick forest to escape the chaos at Bedbury. The berserkers have just attacked the town, killing and capturing slaves. The Berserkers are the strongest pack of all time. my mother and I built a haven in the thick forest of Taiga. Where we can escape to in times like this.

"Ouch!" I stopped on my track and turned around. My mother had stumbled on a mini rock and was bleeding so much

"mama" I screamed as I ran towards her.

"Baby just keep running"

"Get to a haven and I will come to get you"

My mother held my hands tight and kissed them, the blood from her head dripped on my hands...I had a feeling she was telling me goodbye

"Mama…I can't go without you" I couldn't find my breath and I cried out loud.

We heard heavy footsteps approaching.

"Rica...listen to me"

"you are my strong girl…you are my" The hot tears rolled down her cheeks, she sniffled and tried to put on a brave look. I had never seen my mother look this hopeless.

"Make a promise to Mama that you will never give up" Her tone sounded so serious

"I promise mama...But"

"No buts baby...Now run and never look back". The footsteps were getting so close

"Over there!" One male voice shouted.

"Run!" I stood up and moved backward slowly...I couldn't stop looking at my mother's eye

"Get to safe heaven…and remember I love you" I started running as if my life depended on it... it did.

"Get them!" the man shouted.

I kept running. I ran until my body felt too heavy for my legs...I was going out of breath.

I was quite sure anyone around could hear me breathing heavily.

I finally came to a halt. I didn't know how long I had been running... Then I realized I missed my way

I was lost.

A young lady lost and all alone in the thick forest of taiga-one of the most dangerous things that could happen in the forest.

I was so scared and my legs couldn't take the pain and bruise anymore. I curled up beside a rock.

"Mama where are you" I cried and cried until I could only muffle. Then suddenly everything around me became numb and darkness took over.

"Happy birthday to you"

"Happy birthday my dear Rieka" She gave me a big hug from behind, I could feel my mother's warmness.

"Blow your candles baby" I smiled and blew the cake candle.

Suddenly the fire exploded and the whole house caught on fire without a warning.

"I love you baby" I heard a voice that sounded like my mother but she was nowhere to be found.

"Mama!"

"Mama where are you" I was crying and shaking

"Over here baby" I looked down and I saw my mother looking lifeless on the fall. Her eyes were dripping with blood, her body was bruised and her spark was gone.

"Mama!" I tried to get to her but a force was stopping me from moving

"Mama!"

"What is happening" I cried and tried to force myself to move but all effort was in vain.

Suddenly I saw myself outside the burning house. But I was alone

"Help!"

"Somebody help me" my voice was calling from inside the burning house. The entrance of the house was covered with fire

"Mama!" I cried out loud and tried to rush into the fire to rescue my mother. But the same thing happened I could not move. Then I saw a figure weakly trying to drag itself out of the fire.

"Rica" I heard a whispering voice

"Rica" I realized the voice was coming from the figure inside the fire. It was my mother

"Mama I am here" I screamed with tears rolling down my eyes to my checks...my nose was red still unable to move from my spot

"Run Rica!"

"Run!" the voice was fading slowly fading away and echoing.

Boom!!!!!

I watched as the whole house burnt down with my mum inside...not a piece was saved.

"Mama!" I screamed my lungs out…then suddenly everything went still for a moment...Then I started hearing voices...At first, the voices were faint...then gradually they became more audible. It felt like I was in a crowded room filled with voices but empty…then it became so audible.

I covered my ears with my palm to shield them from the noise…the noise started becoming words mixed with wiping.

It sounded like people were crying, some were talking and others were laughing…I could feel myself burning up.

"See who decided to finally join the party" the lady gave a wicked laughter. I slowly opened my eyes...Everything was looking blur

My head was aching and my whole body was in pain and all I could hear was laughter not only from the first voice but from others too…I tried to move but I couldn't

I could hear the sound of a chain...Then I noticed that my legs and hands were in chains…I was so thirsty and hungry

"wa..ter" my voice sounded like a whisper

"Water"

Splash

"Hope you got enough water girlie" The lady poured a bucket of chilled-smelling water on me and laughed and the others joined her.

Disgusted by the water…but the water helped bring me back to reality.
