Hey panda eyes" I reluctantly opened my eyes. She'd caught me, I couldn't continue pretending I was asleep. I laid in a bed. I was at the hospital. "How do you feel?" Melissa asked, and her eyes stared at mine concededly. "I… " I made to answer but the thought of our last meeting sent a slice of pain through me. "I'm sorry, Jay, I really am." Melissa's eyes reddened, she bent, her hands held me lightly. She turned to me,her face was mere inches from mine. "Get better first, we'll talk about everything, okay." She pecked me on my forehead. She turned and left. I sighed, Melissa was uncomfortable in my presence, I felt uncomfortable here too. "You're awake I see" Lucky called out,he walked in. I felt a little guilty when I saw his red eyes, apparently my little episode didn't allow for much sleep. "I'm good, Lucky, sorry for the hassle." "Hahaha, its fine, rather you faint at my place than on the streets." I nodded, in truth my actions were very dumb, I endangered myself in the heat of the moment. "Can you take me home? The smell of this place makes me want to puke." "Of course, I'll go get Melissa" Lucky said, he got to his feet. "There's no need for that" I said hurriedly. Lucky stared puzzledly at me. "Uhm, Jay, is everything okay between you and Melissa?" I stared at Lucky's candid eyes for a few seconds before I smiled bitterly. "No, its not, I think some time apart would do us good." "No, c'mon , Jay,you can't possibly mean that," "I do" I sighed, "Perhaps it'd be for the best." "No Jay!" Lucky sat beside me. "Do you know how much I admire you two, you two have these genuine feelings for each other that's really beautiful to see." Lucky stared at me, " Don't lose that man" "I'll try, I'll…" my words got hooked in my throat, I stared ahead past Lucky, my eyes turned cold. Lucky frowned in confusion. "Huh" he turned around,he stared questioningly at the man who'd just walked in. " Who are you? " " Heinze " " You're not welcome here" I said,I closing my eyes. Hey buddy, you aren't welcome here, please leave" I heard Lucky speak out. "Yeah, I noticed" the man nodded quietly, he dropped a leather bag on a small table by side. "For you, get better soon" he said, then he walked out. "Weird" Lucky mumbled, he opened the leather. "You wanna tell me why we're treating a guy who got you fruits with the short end of the stick?" Lucky asked, he arched his brow. I grunted, I didn't want to say anything about it. My mood felt worse seeing the man, Heinze, or whatever he called himself. "I need to get out of here" "No, Jay, what you need to do is rest " Lucky disagreed with a shake of his head. "Ooh, and what else?" I asked, sarcasm dripping from my voice. "Love, Melissa cares for you" " If her love was as much as her guilt, perhaps I'd not have walked in rain" I snapped. I immediately regretted my words, it wasn't Lucky's fault; I've been having a s**t day. "I'm sorry, Lucky" I apologized. "It's fine man " he nodded quietly. I sighed, I was about to speak when Lucky suddenly said; "Don't talk, you to relax and rest, I expect you'll be out of here by morning." I nodded. "I have to go, I need to be on the oven before six." "Employ someone lucky; you work too damn much." Lucky smiled. "Stay good." He said, then left. I let out a deep breath,I'd been careful not to show my real emotions earlier. The sight of Heinze earlier made me sick. ' What could be going on between them?' I thought miserably as the pain washed through me. I was lost in my thoughts when Melissa walked in. " How're you feeling?" She asked. "Could be better." A mocking smile climbed my face. "Jay" Melissa took a deep breath. " Whats the relationship between you and him " I asked suddenly, my cold eyes stared at Melissa. "I…" Melissa hesitated. My smile widened even as my heart throbbed painfully. "I thought as much, it's a nice opportunity, hahaha," I saw a flash of pain cross Melissa's face but I didn't care anymore. "Jay, I….." "Nurse Melissa," I said deliberately. "Just do what you gotta do,don't mind me" Melissa shook, she lowered her head. I kept silent, I closed my eyes in silence,I couldn't bear to see her like that. "Jay, I want to tell you that…" "That you loved me?" I interrupted her, I smiled mockingly. "You lost the right to say that to me,spare me that" I stared at her. "So please now, just do your job…. And leave." The morning light streamed through the window by my bed. 'Time to leave' I thought desolately. Yesterday, Melissa had left hurriedly after taking my blood sample. Hurriedly to go see her new man I thought, I smiled mockingly at myself, it didn't matter anymore, I thought, 'it was over.' I got ready to leave,I threw on a change of clothes Lucky had brought yesterday. I didnt see Melissa on my way out, I glanced at my watch, it was just barely 9 a.m. I'd just walked out when a long row of cars pulled into the parking lot. Maybe some hotshot had an emergency or came for a checkup, I thought. I stood at the hospital entrance,I quietly contemplated how to get home. I couldn't walk home, and I didn't have cash on me to pay for a taxi. I gritted my teeth and called Lucky, but the call went straight into voicemail. "Lucky Pizza or Lucky the man? Whichever one you looking for please leave a message," Lucky's voice drawled. Inspired of myself, I smiled. Suddenly, a car whipped past me from behind, its tyres whipped up a splash of dirty water that fell directly on me. "Damn it" I cursed, taking my eyes up to stare at the car. It had stopped. " Mr. Jay right " a voice asked from behind me. I turned,my eyes widened in surprise, the convoy from earlier had parked just behind me,seemed like the first car was the leading vehicle I realised. The man asking was a slightly aged man, he had white hair. 'He must've been the hotshot the convoy came to pick up I thought. "Yes, I'm Jay" I nodded. As soon as he saw my face, his eyes lit up, he became agitated. I watched in surprise, what was going on I wondered. He muttered something I didn't hear under his breath. " What's your last name and birthday? " I frowned in confusion, what was all this about. "It's alright, Kid, just answer him, it's really important" a voice said. I turned, my eyes became cold,it was another guard. He was the one in the leading car. They'd flanked me. I turned away from him. The old man hesitated, then asked "Is your last name Rodriguez?" My brows shot up in surprise. I pondered for a moment, then I decided it wouldn't hurt to answer him. I took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes, it's Rodriguez." I hesitated before I added, " My birthday is on the 29th of February." At my words, the old man's eyes lit up. "You're …You're the one," he mumbled agitatedly. "What's going on?" I asked, I was at a loss at the turn of events. "What did you think?...you just got a. billion dollar pass" the guard said, his eyes looked a little reproachful. I rolled my eyes, what was that supposed to mean. " Have you heard of Zogenix? " the old man asked. I felt surprised, but I nodded, who hadn't, it was a multi billion pharmaceutical company, I'd seen a lot of it's brochures, and its headquarters was here in New York. 'So what about Zogenix?' I wondered, What did that have to do with me. " Could you follow me? So we could discuss," the old man asked. I stared at him, suspicious. I shook my head "I can't follow you" The old man hesitated before speaking; " It is 98% sure that you're the lost heir to the Zogenix company." My jaw dropped to the ground. "What!?"
