CHAPTER FIVE: AND THEN SHE BLOOMED

Michael gazed at Chloe, his eyes soft with love and disbelief. “I still can’t believe you finally agreed to be my wife… after stressing the living hell out of me,” he said with a teasing smile. “All thanks to me,” Storm chimed in proudly. “You know, I convinced her.” Chloe laughed and ruffled her sister’s hair. “Thank you for convincing me as if I’d ever marry someone I didn’t love.” Everyone laughed. Mr. Donald stepped forward, his expression tender but solemn. “That’s my first daughter,” he said, voice slightly thick. “My princess. Take good care of her, Michael. I know you’re a good man and you’ve proven that to me, but if you ever wake up one day and find love has changed… don’t raise a hand against her. Don’t abuse her. Just return her to me.” Michael stood straighter, his voice firm. “That will never happen, Papa.” “I believe you.” Mr. Donald nodded, his eyes moist but proud. “I will miss you, Papa,” said Storm, hugging him tightly. “I’ll miss you too, my princess,” he replied, holding her like he was letting go of a part of his soul. They said their final goodbyes, and Chloe left with Storm, their lives forever changed. A domestic staff had been arranged to stay with Mr. Donald. He stood at the doorway a long while after they were gone, whispering a quiet prayer for their happiness. At Michael’s house, Chloe was greeted with warmth and grace. “Welcome home, my love,” Michael said, pulling her into a gentle hug. “Thanks, my love,” Chloe replied, taking in the beauty of the home. “You have a lovely house.” “No, my angel. It’s our house now,” Michael said, kissing her forehead. The dining table was set like royalty. Golden lights glowed above a spread of dishes Chloe couldn’t name. “When did you make all this?” Chloe asked, stunned. “You came to our house really early.” Michael grinned. “Okay, I didn’t cook all this. My chef did.” Chloe’s eyes widened. “Wait, you have a chef?” “Yes, baby,” he said, chuckling. “We have staff for everything.” Chloe shook her head. “That’s such a waste of money. I’m here now. I’ll take care of the cooking, it’s nothing.” But Michael reached for her hand. “No, my love. I don’t want you lifting a finger. I want you to always look good, feel good, and just… be happy. That’s all I want.” Then he added, “By the way, Storm’s nanny resumes tomorrow.” Storm nearly spat out her juice. “Storm’s what?” “No, Brother Michael,” she said dramatically. “I won’t accept that. I’m a big girl now. I can take care of myself.” “I agree with her,” Chloe said, trying not to laugh. Michael raised both hands in surrender. “Okay, you both win. But you better behave. If you stress my wife even one bit, I’ll bring in a nanny immediately.” He winked. They all burst into laughter. “Come on, let me show you to your room, Princess.” Storm’s eyes lit up when she entered her room. “Wow! Is this really all mine?” she said, running from the bed to the teddy bear on the shelf. “Check your wardrobe. I left you a surprise,” Michael said as he gently closed her door. Chloe’s life changed in quiet, golden waves. Michael loved her with a tenderness she never imagined possible. This is the kind of love she had always hoped for, the one her father had for her mother and vice versa. She promised to never settle for less. Every morning, he left love notes on her pillow. Some days he brought flowers, other days jewelry, but the real gift was his constant patient love and devotion. He listened when she spoke. He laughed at her jokes. He made her feel like royalty even on her worst days. They spent warm nights under soft candlelight, talking about the future, kissing like teenagers, holding each other close like they never wanted morning to come. Then, the day came when Chloe woke up sick. Michael rushed to her side, full of worry. “Is something wrong? Please talk to me. I don’t like the way you’ve been feeling lately.” “You are scaring me, my love. I just want to help, should we go to the hospital?” asked Micheal Chloe, smiling through sleepy eyes. “Nothing’s wrong… not exactly.” “Come here love, let me help you down the stairs. We'll have some breakfast first, then go straight to the hospital. I will be with you every step of the way.” Storm was already settled at the table to have breakfast immediately she saw her sister she greeted. “Good morning sister Chloe, good morning brother Micheal. “Good morning Princess” responded Micheal “Good morning my darling sister, how are you doing? Did you sleep well last night?’ “I am fine sister and i slept like an angel” After breakfast, Storm went back to her room to continue drawing “You look a bit strong after seeing your sister, are you sure you don’t want us to go to the hospital?” asked Micheal Storm, the detective, shouted from the hallway: “She’s pregnant! I just know it! I’ve been watching the signs.” Chloe laughed softly. “Well… she’s not wrong.” Michael froze. “Wait, really? You mean it?” She nodded. He sank to his knees and kissed her stomach, tears gathering in his eyes. “Thank you,” he whispered. “You’ve made me the happiest man alive.” "I don't want you lifting a finger around the house anymore," Micheal said softly, brushing a strand of hair from his wife’s face. "You've made me the proudest man alive. From now on, whatever you need, just name it, and it's yours. You’ll have two nurses by your side, day and night, making sure you and our little one are perfectly cared for. That’s all I ask of you, just take care of yourself and our baby." She giggled and teased, "So what now? Are you planning to turn the house into a hospital?" Michael had practically turned the house into a soft cocoon of safety. Ever since Chloe began to show, he’d insisted she do nothing strenuous. The slightest twitch of discomfort on her face sent him into a frenzy. “I’ve got it, baby. Just rest,” he’d whisper, carrying even the lightest thing as shoes as if it might explode. He’d almost moved his entire office home, just to be near her, just to be sure. At first, Chloe teased him for being so protective, but deep down, she adored every bit of it. Every gentle touch. Every forehead kiss. Every whisper of "Are you okay?" felt like a vow all over again. Sometimes, she would watch him from the couch, sleeves rolled, brows furrowed as he typed away on his laptop, and her heart would swell. This is what Mama had, she thought. This is what papa never stopped fighting for. And now, she had it too. God had heard her deepest prayers and wrapped them in Michael’s arms. She reached for his hand one night and whispered, “Thank you for loving me like this.” He didn’t look up from his laptop. He just squeezed her hand tighter and whispered back, “I’ll never stop.” I love the way you treat me, you don't allow me do anything so do you plan on bringing the hospital home? asked Chloe He laughed, pulling her gently into his arms. "If that’s what it takes to keep you safe and smiling, then yes, I'll bring the whole hospital to you." Nine months later, the family gathered again. Mr. Donald wept tears of joy as he held his first grandchild, a healthy baby boy. He looked at his daughter with love in his eyes and Michael’s smile. They named him Ethan.
