JULIAN’S POV:
It wasn’t long after Ophelia left that Jaxton came in
“Why are you still at work?” he looked around “And where is your secretary?” he asked
I narrowed my eye immediately as I stepped towards him
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he exhaled nervously, the back of his finger brushing briefly under his nose
“Have you been with a woman today?” I wiped the red stain on his neck
“Well damn” he didn’t deny it either.
Playfully, I smacked his head
“Shouldn’t you be working?”
“Look who’s preaching now. You’re worse than I am” he walked over to my table and closed my laptop shut
“Let’s go somewhere” he leaned against my table.
I huffed lowly before raking my hair with my fingers
“I’m not in the mood tonight” he said
“Hm, Celeste told me you refused her today” he walked towards me, his hand on my shoulder “Is something bothering buddy?”
With my tongue poking my cheek, I nodded
“Never mind, let’s go” I grabbed my jacket and headed out with Jaxton
“I don’t want you all sullen and dull there” he spoke endlessly when it was about women “I found this new place”.
We arrived at a luxury bar and lounge I didn’t know existed but somehow Jaxton had been a regular.
The music blasting from the speakers got louder the moment we step foot in.
The whole place was neat and polished unlike other places I’ve been.
The clean floors reflected the blue-violet lights that stretched across the room. Rows of comfortable leather chairs were arranged with tables around. It went all the way upstairs, a place I suppose is for VIPs.
“What’s this place?”
“A good one, plus the service here is top notch, you’ll enjoy every single bit of your night” he yelled through the music, his hands pointing everywhere like though he was giving a presentation.
I made my way upstairs when Jaxton held me back
“Sit here” he patted the back of the couch
“Do you expect me to sit where random people sit” my brows drew to a frown at such disrespect
“This place is also VIP but we’re sitting here because there will be a performance today” he said, pressing his weight on me to sit.
I refused to sit.
“Come on man” he gave up and I finally took my sit.
I was getting into my drinks with Jaxton when the lights suddenly went out. The stage lit up with red lights at a distance. A beat, slowly and soft played through the speakers till the lights fully came on, leaving the crowd in the dark. One by one, some dancers went up the stage all in the same kind of dressing. Gold ornaments shimmered beneath those lights as the music grew louder.
Belly dancers? In a club?
Is this some kind of child play? A performance just didn’t sit well with me
“It’s starting”
Jaxton seemed a little more…excited.
The took their formation which made me giggle for a second. But the center was left empty
“ooh, Velvet is about to enter” Jaxton said to my ears while I looked at him from the side of my eyes. Of course, he was interested in any kind of woman. Shameful thing.
The spotlight searched the crowd, briefly getting into my eyes
“Do they have to make people blind over their nonsense…”
Before I could complete my sentence, the spotlight stopped at the grand staircase that shone with gold lights underneath.
“Velvet!” the crowd erupted with cheers.
Unlike other dancers, this Velvet had a veil over her face and everything on her was black and gold.
My arm folded and rested on the armrest of the chair before I rested my head on it. She made her way to the center stage and the music ceased.
I waited, expectant of what this performance was really about.
It started soon and really, it wasn’t the nonsense I had expected. The way the movement of their hips moved in synchronization of the beats playing and the golden ornaments of their waists shook gently with their movement.
“Not so bad?” Jaxton whispered but I didn’t even look at him.
My eyes followed every bit of that veiled dancer, she sure was different in the way she moved that made her the center.
The moment my eyes searched every bit of her body, i scoffed within me. This feeling, I know it. It won’t last forever.
The lights went out again cutting my attention from her.
“Can we leave now?” I asked Jaxton but he only leaned into the chair
“Not anytime soon” he said when the stage lit again.
Something else flashed through my mind, something I had fought for years, something that made me feel that spark of electricity.
This dancer. Who is she?
The crowd jeered, also Jaxton
“This is the first time velvet would be doing a pole dance” he said, my eyes darted back to the stage where she stood with this tight shorts and piece of clothes barely covering her up.
This time, the audience lights were on and for a brief moment, we made eye contact.
The way her hips moved to every single beat of the music, my body reacted to her, even from a distance. A feeling I had tamed for a long time was coming alive again.
It's like for a moment I wanted to know what it felt like to have her to myself.
The moment I started to feel something come alive in me, the moment when she seemed to temtpting to resist, I stepped out.
Everyone looked at me go like I had just committed a sin. Jaxton reluctantly followed me behind
“Julian! Hey Julian!” he called and I finally paused, the music fading out behind us
“What’s wrong? Do you not like it? No one walks out during velvet’s show” he said
“Well I did”.
Jaxton sighed, his hands on his waist
“why are you acting like this? I thought you’ll finally get down with a lady after months” he said
“I don’t want to”
“Why not? Because of Ashley?” he asked, knowing exactly why I had avoided women at the moment. It wasn’t supposed to make me angry but it sure did something to me
“So? Isn’t that enough reason?” my voice came out a little louder than expected, the passers-by began looking.
Jaxton ran his palm over his face
‘It’s cool, let’s go” he got into the driver’s seat and we left.
