I moved slowly against the bed and soon pulled the sheets over my head, stopping the light from getting into my eyes. For a while I felt numb but didn’t worry about it. I needed to sleep a little more.
Work?
Oh s**t! Work!
I shoved the sheets off my face and soon jumped out of the bed. I crashed to the hard floor, a stinging ache tore through my body, particularly my thighs. I sat for a while trying to gather my thoughts.
I winced in pain as my hand immediately rubbed between my legs. All that dancing, I never ached like this.
I rushed through a bath and threw whatever clothes on me, barely looking into the mirror before dashing out of my room.
I rushed down the stairs and heard my name called out. Lucas.
“You were here? I thought you left last night” he said
“I don’t even know how I’m still here but I have to hurry to work now” I hurried out of the bar and hit the brakes immediately I set eyes on Jaxton. I went back into the bar and hid behind the counter.
Immediately he had his back turned on the doors, I dashed out and hailed a taxi all the way to work.
While I was on a call with Aria, the taxi driver kept glancing at me from the rear mirror.
I looked through the mirror from the side of my eyes and there he was again, looking at me.
I got off in front of the company and went in immediately, using my fingers to brush down the wild strands of my hair.
I waited for the elevator alongside other workers. Then I realized it wasn’t only weird that the taxi driver was looking at me, the other workers were looking at and muttering among themselves.
Is something on my face?
I checked on my phone’s screen but my face was at least presentable. Someone would have thought a squid was on my face or something.
Julian wasn’t here yet so I prepped up my table since he said a long day was ahead of us.
I flipped through papers when my hand suddenly froze.
Memories from last night flashing through my mind.
My jaw hung there as I watched the repercussions of last night in my head. A man. Both of us. In bed. Skin to skin.
A loud scream tore from my throat as my hands slipped up to my hair, gripping them at both sides.
A colleague rushed over with a stick
“What’s that?” he looked around. I closed my eyes trying to convince myself it was a dream but I couldn’t deny the vivid images in my head
“Ophelia?” he touched my arm. Another scream tore from my throat as I ran away. Losing my mind completely.
I dashed into the restroom and clicked the door shut, my back resting on it.
No way! It didn’t happen.
I went over to the sink and poured some water over my face like it could wash away these memories. I looked up to my reflection and what my eyes saw…I couldn’t help it but panic surged over me.
My hand traced the purple looking bruises on my neck, down to my collarbone.
The taxi driver, the workers. Is that why they were looking?
I couldn’t stand anymore not with the conviction of who it happened with. With no one else but…my boss?
I fell to a crouch thinking of how to face all these people who had seen me.
“I can’t work like this” I got up and rushed over to my seat to grab my bag before Julian could come to work.
Just as I was about to leave, I heard footsteps. Julian’s here.
Instinctively, I rushed under my table with my bag, holding my mouth shut.
He paused by my table and asked someone that accompanied him
“Where’s Monroe?” he asked
“I haven’t seen her today. shall I call her?” he asked.
I turned off my phone immediately.
“I’ll do that myself” he walked into his office and when I heard the door shut, I stepped out and left that second.
I got out of the company when his call came in. I went to a less noisy place, pinched my nose then answered
“Why aren’t you at work?” he asked
“I’m sorry, Mr. Vane. I feel a little sick” I said, my voice low and convincing. He didn’t say anything for a second then-
“Have some rest” he hung up.
I looked at my screen and wondered why he had just allowed me so easily. Whatever, I needed to get this off my neck.
