Chapter 9

I was still under Julian’s shadow, his body heat consumed me. One inch closer and we’d be brushing against each other. “I’m just Ophelia, I guess”. He pulled away and turned his back “Why did you run away from home when you could just get back at Leo?” he asked “Are you seriously encouraging me to revenge against your brother?” I took a step forward “I encourage people to follow their hearts, do what they really want” he said, unbuttoning his shirt. “And how do…” my words faded as soon as that shirt slipped off his shoulder. I snapped back then turned around, away from him “How are you sure that is what I want?” I asked. “Are you talking to the wall now?” he asked “I’m giving you space” I said. “With that reaction at the hospital, you really wanted to tear him apart” he said. He didn’t lie. I was about to turn around when his hands stopped me. I felt his jaw rest on my shoulder, his voice a lot lower and tempting. “We both want something and it’s with no one but Leo.” He said, his head tilting a little to look at me “I can help you with that” he said. My hands tightened around my nightdress, feeling every part of me react to Julian’s closeness “Help me how?” I asked. He turned me around to face him “Marry me” he said. I almost choked. He said a lot more casual like it meant nothing. I took his hands off my body “Is this a joke? Marry you after a divorce with your brother?” I scoffed “Four years is long enough to stop being someone’s abandoned wife.” “I don’t need a favor of getting into another marriage from a man with the same blood as Leo” I countered. Julian exhaled “I’m not marrying you for real, Ophelia” he turned back to his table and returned with a tablet “ Then don't call it a favor. Call it a transaction.” he put it to me, my hands reached for it. “You’ll be done in three months if you sign that. Everything you tell Leo to do, he’d do it at your feet in three months if you agree to it” he said. I read halfway the contract he placed in my hand and then looked back at him “Why are you making look like this is me alone? What is yours that’s with Leo?” he asked. He took my wrist and led me towards the door “It’s family issue” he leaned on the doorpost “Get back to me by morning” he said and closed the door like a million had not just happened. I got back to my room and read through the contract. I wasn’t going to do it but as I read through it, my thoughts about it began to change. Maybe it’s not that bad. Three months is more than enough to teach that cheating ass a lesson.
