Emily "Doves would be perfect." My mother exclaims to Noah as we rode up the elevator. Of course she will continue to tell Noah her ideas about the wedding. That's been the entire conversation the whole time we were making it up to Jennifer's apartment and Noah was feeding into. Big wedding with a lot of cameras and people I might not even know. It's a lot but here I was about to get myself prepared for it all. My mind wondered off to something new. Marcus. Was he going to be there when I arrive? Of course he was going to be there. That's Jennifer's brother and from everything he was doing, I knew he wasn't planning on going anywhere anytime soon. The elevator 'pings' and the doors slide open. Inhaling, I prepared myself for what was next. Making it to Jennifer's door, I knocked. We waited patiently and not a moment later did the door open, revealing Deigo who held a sleeping Dom. "Emily," he greeted with a kind smile. "Diego," I lifted the pan of vanilla butter-creamed cupcakes I made for the kids. "I brought cupcakes." He chuckled, grabbing the pan from me while pushing the door open wider. "Thank you." While walking inside, I gestured towards Noah and my mother. "This is Noah and my mother." Diego nods. "It's nice to officially meet you." "And you," Noah responded with a kind gesture while my mother looked around their home. "Yes," She murmurs, and I silently hoped she wouldn't speak on anything. My mother, a controlling yet judgmental person. If something doesn't fall in her vision, she has no problem expressing her opinion. "Mom," I sighed. "You have a lovely home." She settles, walking inside and closing the door behind her. "Thanks." "Are they here?!" Jennifer's voice pitched in the air. She rounded the corner and her smile grew wider when she saw me. She embraced me and I smiled. Pulling away, I gestured to my mother and Noah. "You remember my mother and Noah." "Of course I do." She greets them with a smile before waving us to come in. The table was nicely prepared and set up for seven guests. Well, eight with Dom's highchair. When Destiny saw me, her eyes sparkled and she ran to me without a thought. "Auntie Emi!" she jumped into my arms and I lifted her, kissing her little forehead. "How's my favorite niece?" I smiled at her adoringly. "Good. I got a sticker on my homework and I was on green all day today." "That's amazing." "It is, right?" my body tensed the moment his voice filled my ears. Lifting my gaze from hers, I found his. He was looking back at me with such an intense gaze I thought I would break. He was dressed in a nice button-down black shirt that did him no justice in hiding his muscles with black slacks. I swallowed that large lump in my throat, trying to calm my racing heart. I could do this dinner. I was mature enough to not allow Marcus to get into my head. "Uncle Mars said to shoot for a star sticker next time." Destiny broke through my thoughts. "And you should. Come on little monster. Time to wash your hands." Diego said and I placed Destiny down. She ran to her father with pouty lips. "You look exquisite, Emily," Marcus states, looking me up and down. Swallowing hard, I put on my best face. I haven't even been here for fifteen minutes and he was already starting his games. I would think he'd be an adult but I was wrong. "Thank you, Marcus." I smiled, reaching out and grabbing Noah's hand. "I would like you to meet my fiance, Noah. Baby, this is Jen's brother Marcus." The flash of anger in his eyes disappeared just as it appeared. Noah stepped forward, holding out his free hand to shake his. Marcus looked down at it before offering his own out of tolerance. "And my mother." My mother forces a smile before Jennifer came back in with more food. "Dinner is ready." Marcus A joke. My aggressive thoughts were due to seeing Emily falling over Noah. He paid her the same affection and it made my blood boil. I watch them from down the table while they talked to Jen and Diego. It didn't make it better when the topic was about their wedding. It's suppose to be me. Call me an asshole of the evening but I know that's how it's supposed to be. And so does Emily. Her mother, on the other hand, Juliann, was it, loved seeing them together. It was sickening. "So, Marcus," Noah called, forcing me to lift my head from my plate and look over in their direction. Across the table. "What kind of work do you do in Canada?" Eyes exchanged looks. Everyone was closely paying attention to this interaction. "Labor." and I left it there. It was none of his business and I was in a bad mood. I could feel my sister's eyes on me but I didn't bother. I could still see the face she made as she warned me to be on my best behavior for the night and frankly, that was slipping. Emily triggered me and seeing her with him didn't make it any better. "What's it like? To be a celebrity?" I asked, stabbing my for into my food and taking another bite. "Not easy as many people make it sound but it has its benefits." "An actor right? I've never seen you in any movies." "Noah is still new in the field," Emily spoke up gaining my attention. She was looking at me, her eyes contemplating. I smirked and that made her eyes narrow. She then turned to Noah and smiled. "But he's a hard worker." She leaned forward and pressed her lips against his, the bastard accepting her. A sharp growl slipped past my lips and I stood abruptly. I didn't care about the attention I drew upon myself. "Marcus?" Jennifer's voice was small to my ears. "I need air." I say, grabbing hold of my unfinished plate and walking out of the dining room.
