The sound of rain still echoed in Isabella’s mind long after she got home.
Even as she stepped into her apartment, closed the door, and leaned against it… her heart hadn’t calmed down.
Not even a little.
She slipped off her shoes slowly, her thoughts replaying every moment from the night before.
Daniel’s voice.
His eyes.
The way he looked at her like she was the only person in the world.
She exhaled softly, pressing her fingers against her lips as if trying to erase the memory.
But it was impossible.
Because she didn’t want to forget.
---
Morning came too quickly.
Sunlight filtered through her curtains, soft and warm, a complete contrast to the stormy night that had changed something inside her.
Isabella lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
And the first thing she thought about… was him.
She sat up suddenly.
“This is ridiculous,” she muttered to herself.
She didn’t even know him.
Not really.
And yet…
It felt like she did.
---
Later that day, Isabella sat in her favorite corner of the café—the same one from the night before.
Her notebook was open in front of her.
Pen in hand.
But just like yesterday…
She wasn’t writing.
She was waiting.
Even if she didn’t want to admit it.
“You’re back.”
Her heart skipped.
She looked up quickly—
But it wasn’t Daniel.
It was the waiter, offering her a small smile.
“Same order?” he asked.
She hesitated for a second… then nodded.
“Yes, please.”
As he walked away, Isabella felt a small wave of disappointment wash over her.
Why did she expect him to be here?
Why did it matter?
She sighed softly, forcing herself to focus on her notebook.
Write something. Anything.
But the words wouldn’t come.
Because her mind was somewhere else.
Somewhere in the rain.
Somewhere with him.
---
“You came back.”
Her pen froze.
That voice.
Slowly, she looked up.
And there he was.
Daniel.
Standing in front of her like he had never left.
Her heart instantly betrayed her, beating faster.
“I could say the same thing,” she replied, trying to stay calm.
A faint smile appeared on his lips as he pulled out the chair across from her.
“Maybe I was hoping you would.”
Her cheeks warmed slightly.
“You seem very sure of yourself.”
“I told you,” he said, leaning back casually, “I usually am.”
There was a pause.
A different kind of silence this time.
Less uncertain.
More familiar.
---
“So,” Daniel said, his eyes scanning her face, “did you sleep?”
She let out a small laugh.
“Barely.”
“Good.”
She frowned.
“Good?”
“It means I wasn’t the only one thinking about last night.”
Her breath caught.
He said it so easily.
So confidently.
And the worst part?
He was right.
---
The waiter returned with her cappuccino, placing it gently on the table before walking away.
Isabella wrapped her fingers around the cup, trying to ground herself.
“This is dangerous,” she said quietly.
Daniel raised an eyebrow.
“What is?”
“This… whatever this is between us.”
He leaned forward slightly, his gaze softening but never losing its intensity.
“Maybe,” he said.
“But you’re still here.”
She looked down at her cup.
“…so are you.”
---
Another silence.
But this one felt different.
Heavier.
Closer.
Real.
---
“Come with me,” Daniel said suddenly.
Her head snapped up.
“What?”
“Just for a little while.”
She blinked.
“That’s not how this works. You can’t just—”
“Isabella,” he interrupted gently, “sometimes you don’t need to overthink everything.”
Her heart began to race again.
“And what if I say no?”
Daniel held her gaze.
“Then I’ll sit here with you… and keep looking at you like this.”
Her breath hitched.
“Like what?”
“Like I’m already not ready to let you go.”
Silence.
Deep.
Unavoidable.
Isabella swallowed softly, her fingers tightening slightly around her cup.
Every instinct told her to be careful.
To slow down.
To think.
But her heart…
Her heart was already moving ahead of her.
“Just a little while,” she said quietly.
Daniel’s lips curved into a slow, satisfied smile.
“Good choice.”
And as she stood up, grabbing her bag, Isabella realized something she could no longer deny—
This wasn’t just curiosity anymore.
It was something deeper.
Something stronger.
And she was already falling into it… one step at a time.
