THE YEAR 1943
The Commander Islands are opened to the hunting of the arctic fox. The snipers Dadashev, Bogdanov and Dzhabrailov eliminate 66 Fascists in 17 days. In Moscow, snow removal services are inadequate; schoolchildren on winter break spend their time repairing the shoes of Red Army soldiers. In a building on Gorky Street, a few individual citizens violate the decree of the Moscow city council and proceed to chop firewood right in their apartments. Epaulettes are re-introduced in the Soviet Army: the infantry receives a raspberry color, the artillery red, the air force blue, and the cavalry bright blue. The Stanislavsky Theater buys castanets and Spanish ruffs from the public.
