I licked my chapped lips, struggling against the ropes that bound me to the chair. My gaze swept around the dark room, hoping to figure out a way to tell the time. There was nothing, not even a skylight. Tears rolled down my cheeks, and I sniffled. What had I ever done to deserve this? There was a soft click, and the door to the room opened quietly. A middle-aged man dressed in a black suit walked inside and shut the door again. He tiptoed closer to me and held out a bottle of water. “Please have this. You must be dehydrated.” “How do I know that the water isn’t spiked?” I muttered, eying the contents of the bottle warily. “Didn’t you recognise me, ma’am?” My eyebrows furrowed as I took a closer look at him.
