CHAPTER 6.2

A pained sigh left my lips and I staggered. What exactly did he mean by that? How was any of this my fault? Fresh tears rolled down my cheeks and I sniffled. It was okay if he didn’t want to thank me but he shouldn’t have been this cold. “Ayame? Where did you go suddenly?” Sierra’s voice sounded, forcing me to tear my gaze from Tristan’s disappearing back. “I looked….” She stopped talking all of a sudden, “Why are you crying?” “Umm… it’s nothing….” I stuttered, wiping off my tears quickly. Sierra grabbed my hand with a startled gasp, “How did this happen? Did those pricks hurt you?” “Umm… no…” I pulled my hand away and averted my gaze. “I am fine.” “Then what happened, Ayame?” Sierra said in a concerned voice, inspecting my hand. “Why is there such a large bruise on your hand?” “It is nothing, Sierra. Really. It just looks bad; doesn’t hurt at all.” I lied as smoothly as I could. I didn’t want Sierra to confront Tristan about this. He probably just lost control over his temper. “Let me put some ice on that before you leave.” “But…” “Just come, Ayame. Don’t be so stubborn,” she snapped, dragging me away to the canteen. “You never think about yourself. What if that bruise gets worse? How will you write in the….” Her voice trailed off and she suddenly went quiet; realising that I wouldn’t be attending classes anymore. “Sit here, I will get some ice from the freezer.” She said, making me sit at an empty table. A rueful sigh left my lips as I watched her weave her way through the crowd. I was going to miss her and her constant blabbering. My shoulders slumped and I fidgeted with the keychain. If only Tristan wasn’t being such a jerk. I could have had one last coffee with the two of them. It would have been a nice memory to treasure… “Gosh! Oh My God! Did you guys hear that?” Laila shouted pulling me out of my thoughts. “Alistair is here!” “Sweet Baby Bunnies, No! That can’t be true.” Adriana one of the more popular girls exclaimed with an excited shriek. “Royal God Brother can’t be here.” “Believe it or not, he is here. My boyfriend, Daniel just saw him park his sports car.” Laila said, waving a picture at everyone. Her words threw the entire canteen into a state of pandemonium. Everyone Abandoned their half-finished food and drinks and made a mad dash for the door. For the next few minutes, the canteen resounded with footsteps, shrieks and shouts as they pushed and shoved each other in an attempt of getting outside quickly. Seems like Alistair was even more popular than Edmund and Eric. Why anyone would go crazy over such arrogant pricks was beyond me? Did money matter that much? I guess it did. If I was rich, Mr. Benjamin would have investigated my case instead of persuading me to enter into some stupid deal with the Royal Brothers. A hush fell over the canteen once everyone left. To be honest, the silence was exactly what I needed. Stretching my arms, I settled in a more comfortable position. I closed my eyes and let my mind wander; thinking of different options I had. I could take up a full time job and save up money before enrolling in some other school. Also, I could apply for other scholarship programs. The only cause for my worry was mom. She would definitely throw a fit. She might even kick me out of the house for real. The screeching sound of chair being pulled jolted me out of my reverie. A small smile spread on my lips, seeing Sierra sitting down next to me. Her gaze swept around the room and she asked in a bewildered voice, “What happened to everyone? Did their prejudice finally drive them crazy?” I took the ice pack from her and pressed it to my wrist, “They have probably gone to see the eldest of the Royal Brothers.” Sierra froze; her eyes flitting to mine. “You mean… Alistair is here?” I shrugged. “That’s what Laila said….” Her gaze drifted to the doorway and she almost got up from the chair. But, then she sat back with a sigh of resignation. “You can go if you want.” Her face flushed and she looked away. “What are you saying, Ayame?” I giggled and smacked her with my uninjured arm. “Just go and see him, Sierra. I swear I won’t judge.” She bit her lower lip, “Is it that obvious that I want to see Alistair?” “Umm…hmmm…. It is written all over your face.” I was about to ask Sierra if she had feelings for Alistair but the sound of thundering footsteps and shrieks made me halt. My gaze drifted to the doorway to find a tall, fair man standing at the entrance. He was dressed in a three-piece suit and his hair was neatly set with some expensive gel. He was no doubt very handsome but it was ruined by the snobbish, proud expression typical of Royal brothers. I shook my head and snorted. What these girls saw in them was beyond me. I wouldn’t even want to know them if they were the last men left on earth. Alistair walked straight over to our table. His eyes twinkled and his lips curved in a half smirk, “So you are the one huh?” My eyebrows scrunched in a frown. “Do you know me?” “I don’t.” he stated, pulling a chair and placing his right foot on it. “I would however like to know the girl who made the Prince reveal his identity.” “Prince?” The frown on my forehead deepened. “You know I can’t understand a thing you are saying, right?” “I know.” He said simply as his lips quirked with a strange expression. “Right now, I am in a hurry to meet the principal. I will see you around.” He said with a half wave and then walked away. “Did you understand anything he said, Sierra?” “I didn’t but then I was too busy looking at him.” Sierra mumbled, letting out a long deep sigh. “How do you know Royal Godbrother?” Laila asked pulling a chair to sit down next to me. “You should have told us that you are aquainted with him.” Adriana said, dragging a chair to our table. “We would have supported you.” Soon a small crowd gathered around us. Some girls even brough food and drinks for me. I don’t know what they were trying to accomplish but their behaviour was suffocating. “I am sorry but I am getting late to work,” I said getting to my feet. Zoning out whatever gibberish they were spewing, I walked out of the canteen. A long, exhausted sigh left my lips as I walked along the corridor. In a way, it was good that I didn’t have to come to Alberton High any more. I don’t think I could handle all this craziness. Adjusting the straps on my bag, I walked out of the gates. Who would have thought that my stay here would be such a short-lived one…
