Two worlds (i)

Shannon had barely made it past the school gates when she got startled by a loud horn. She turned around to see a black G-wagon parked in the Teacher’s curb with a man in the driver’s seat. The back tinted windows rolled down revealing maya who was laughing her ass off

“Oh my God babes you should’ve seen your face” maya said grinning from ear to ear

“Maya?” Shannon asked while squinting her eyes to get a clear picture “dude you scared the s**t out of me”

“Get in Shan ” maya yelled out to Shannon “we’re not supposed to be parked here”

Shannon made her way to the car and got in. Before she could any word out of her mouth she was pulled into a tight hug

“I missed you” Maya said “why didn’t I see you today I looked everywhere for you”

“I missed you too” Shannon replied while trying to release herself from the hug “but I kind of can’t breath”

“Oh sorry Shan I just really missed you” Maya says finally releasing her from the death grip of a hug

“But seriously why didn’t I see you today?”

“Oh I got roped into some gala thing I didn’t even get a lunch break” Shannon replied

“How do you even get rushed into something like that this is quite literally your first day” Maya asked looking confused

“That’s exactly what I asked but apparently they need the two top students to work together to organize and anchor the event so yeah I basica..”

Shannon gets cut off by Maya

“Wait wait hold on…the two top students?Shannon, who are you anchoring with?”

Shannon hesitated for a second

“Shan??” Maya calls out to her

“…Ethan Whitmore” Shannon replied

Maya’s mouth fell open “shut the front door”

“THE Ethan Whitmore?like heir to the Legacy,entire school wants him,Ethan Whitmore?”

“Yup that’s one” Shannon replied “Although I do think you’re being a bit dramatic,what’s the big deal with him?”

“What’s the big deal with him??shan he’s basically Hawton Royalty. Every guy in school wants to be him and every girl wants to be with him,even teachers praise him for doing bare minimum”

“So basically what you’re saying is he gets preferential treatment because he’s rich?”

“He’s not just rich Shan, he’s stinkingly wealthy,smart,fluent in like 15 different languages and he’s a gentleman. He’s a total package” Maya replied grinning

“I don’t know about gentleman,I think he’s an insufferable guy who thinks the world revolves around him” Shannon muttered to herself

Maya narrowed her eyes “okay Shan spill,what happened between you two?”

“Nothing happened” Shannon replied quickly “we just had an… iffy moment”

“An ‘iffy moment’ isn’t nothing so spill” Maya demanded

“Okay fine” Shannon said sighing “I accidentally bumped into him in the hallway and he said something dumb about girls being clumsy and he referred to me as ‘some chick’ so I called him out, and then…I don’t know he held my hand for a second that’s it no big deal”

“He held your hand? And you call it no big deal? It’s quite literally the biggest of deals” Maya replied freaking out

“Yeah, remember when I called him insufferable? I still feel that way” Shannon said rolling her eyes

“But I do want to ask you about someone. He helped me out earlier today ”

“Ask away I basically know everyone in school” Maya replied

“Oh okay.. I think his name was Malcolm”

Maya looked at Shannon in disbelief “Are you talking about Malcom Reed? Ginger?freckles? really tall?”

“Yes OMG that’s him” Shannon replied almost jumping

“OMG you slut you pulled both Ethan and Malcom in just 1 day??” Maya asked basically screaming

“I didn’t pull anyone,I barely even had a conversation with them and Malcom just helped me with my locker” Shannon replied

Maya eyed her warily “mhm I don’t believe you one bit, but I’m not going to push”

“I’m actually so serious nothing happened i promise” Shannon replied

“Okay if you say so but give me all the deets” Maya asked enthusiastically

“I thought you said you weren’t going to push” Shannon asked

“I totally lied, okay tell me did you get their numbers?How did they smell? Were they really tall next to you?” Maya asked

Shannon saw her house up ahead and used this as an opportunity to end the conversation

“We’re here,Wow would you look at that” Shannon replied nervously while opening the door “Maya I’d love to continue this conversation that’s definitely not awkward…but my mum’s probably waiting on me bye” she slammed the door shut. While trying to run up to the door

Maya yelled through the window “we’re not done with this conversation Shan”

Shannon opens her door and slams it shut

“Mom?” Shannon called out dropping her bag on the floor

“I’m in here pumpkin” her mum’s voice came from the kitchen sounding rushed “Great timing,I need to leave in 5 minutes”

“Night shift again?” Shannon asked

“We’re short-staffed pumpkin” Her mum grabbed her bag and pressed a kiss to Shannon’s head as she passed “ oh your siblings need dinner,the laundry needs to be folded, the dishwasher offloaded and the other stuffs are written down on the fridge”

Shannon glances at the sticky note on the fridge “Got it”

“I know it’s a lot pumpkin” her mum said looking apologetic “I’m sorry”

“It’s fine mum I really don’t mind, umm when is dad getting home?”

“I’m sorry pumpkin he’s staying a bit late at the construction site. He took on extra hours” her mum replied while hurriedly trying to wear her shoes and jacket at the same time

“Again?I haven’t seen him in three days” Shannon asked

“I know pumpkin,but you know with you leaving early for school he only gets to come home for lunch breaks but it’s just for a little while okay?This is temporary, I promise. I have to get going, Bye pumpkin I love you” her mum said before slamming the door shut

“Yeah I love you too” Shannon whispered to herself
