Chapter 20“There’s Hollis,” I said, pointing him out to Jules. His head was bent while he sat at Khai’s side. My parents had insisted on keeping him en-gelled him for the voyage, despite both our protests.
“Mmm, you know what? I think I’m going to listen to your mom and give him some space. I’m gonna go check on Gawen. Wanna come?”
I shook my head, unable to tear my eyes from Khai’s face, strangely pale and green under the exo-gel.
“He’s okay, you know,” she said softly. I knew she meant Khai.
“I know.”
“Come find us when you’re done.” Taking my mother’s advice to heart, Jules sauntered over to Gawen where he was laughing with a bunch of Light Guards, a big bold smile on her face. Instantly, several of the Guards were offering her their chairs, vying for her attention.
