Ross opened the front door and let Audrey enter first, knowing the officer in the patrol car made random strolls around the house to ensure no one entered from the backyard. He closed and locked the door, then followed Audrey into the kitchen.
She set the pots by the door leading from the kitchen out to the garden beds on the east side of the house. When she turned to help Ross unpack the groceries, she was struck by the domestic scene they made. Pausing at the flutter in her belly, she watched as Ross stretched to place something in a cabinet above the stove and noticed how his shirt pulled tight across his shoulders. And when he bent to grab a pot from a lower shelf, the perfect fit of his jeans reminded her of their morning together.
